Join us for the Environmental Program's
40th Anniversary Celebration

October 5 - 6, 2012

We have plans for the following ENVS events:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5

• ENVS Alumni Panel in ENVS 001, 10:40 - 12:00, Billings Lecture Hall
  Come listen to ENVS alumni speak about their time in the Program and what they have done since graduating! The panel will be followed by an informal reception for students and alums in Billings Martin Luther King Lounge.


• Current ENVS Student Panel for alumni, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Davis Center, Chittenden Bank Room
  Meet some of our current students and learn about opportunities and life as an ENVS major now.


• Environmental Studies Alumni Welcome Reception, 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Bittersweet House, Founders Room
  Talk with fellow alums, some current students, and faculty and staff you knew, and meet new faces in our community. Share your news. Come see how Bittersweet has changed, or stayed much the same.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6

• ENVS Community Work Parties: Farm, Forest, Lake, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
  Meet at Bittersweet House. If driving, park in Allen House lot across Prospect St.
  Join ENVS alumni, students, faculty and staff in the fun and rewards of working together on local service projects

  There are three work parties to choose from:
  • Farm: Spend the afternoon at Digger's Mirth Collective Farm with farmer, and ENVS alum, S'ra DeSantis pulling carrots, weeding, and learning more about how a collective farm works.
  • Forest: Head over to Centennial Woods, one of UVM's Natural Areas, to finish construction of a boardwalk on one of the trails in the woods and learn some of the history of the woods from ENVS student Sam Hubert.
  • Lake: Come work with Lauren Chicote of the Winooski Valley Park District and the Nature Conservancy to learn how to identify and remove invasive plants at the Ethan Allen Homestead.


• Environmental Program 40th Anniversary Gala Reception 4:00 - 6:30 pm, Davis Center, Mt. Mansfield Room
  Gala Event of our Environmental Program 40th Anniversary Celebration. Come, celebrate our founders, our history, and our future.
  Tentative program for the Gala Reception as follows:
  • 4:00 Welcome, music with Peter Fairbanks Miller '84
    Hearty finger food, drinks, with memorabilia such as senior theses and environmental philosophies
  • 4:45 "The Story" -- a slide show of our history and people over 40 years
    Stephanie Kaza, Director
  • 5:00 Honoring the Long-Timers: Carl Reidel, Ian Worley, Tom Hudspeth, Rick Paradis, Sue Bean
    Various speakers
  • 5:15 Tribute to the Program: a short skit
    Performed by current ENVS students
  • 5:25 One more entertainment -- a surprise!
  • 5:45 Celebrating 40 years together -- enjoy!
