Master's in English - Course work
Thesis Option:
- 24 credit hours of course work, including ENGS 350 and one course in each of the following: (1) ancient, medieval, 16th or 17th-century literature and culture (2) 18th or 19th-century literature and culture (3) 20th or 21st-century literature and culture
- 6 credit hours in thesis research (ENGS 391)
- ENGS 345 is required of Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) during their first semester of teaching
- 6 credit hours of Humanities courses can count, but may not be substituted for required English courses
- A graduate student may opt to conduct an independent study with a member of the graduate faculty. Only one such study will count toward completion of coursework for the M.A. The independent study may not cover the same material as the thesis topic.
- A student may take one 200-level course for graduate credit. Further 200-level coursework--and any 100-level courses in which a student may wish to enroll--are at the prerogative of the DGS and graduate college by special permission.
