Potential Climate Change Indicator #4: Percent of Years (out of 10 previous years) that Lake Champlain Did Not Freeze Over

This indicator displays data on the percent of years that Lake Champlain has not frozen over during given decades (starting with 1992-2001 and working back to 1817-1826).

As you can see, the Lake has been closing less and less in recent years. Lake Champlain has been closed due to ice in 12 of the past 30 years.

Since 1816, the earliest the lake has froze is January 7th (in 1868) and the latest it has froze is March 26th (in 1894).
