Emergency Management

Preparation for Hurricane Irene

As forecasts begin to solidify concerning the track of Hurricane Irene, it appears that Sunday mid-day through Monday mid-day Vermont will be significantly impacted by the storm. This is an important weekend for the University with the arrival of new students on Friday and returning students over the weekend.

The Emergency Operations Group (EOG) under the leadership of Associate Vice Presidents Bill Ballard and Annie Stevens met recently to begin preparations and planning for the storm’s impact and will continue to meet throughout.  We anticipate regular updates to the University community about emergency preparedness primarily through email, postings on the UVM Emergency Management website, and the CatAlert system. We encourage you to make sure your contact information in the CatAlert system is up to date.

The forecasted timing of the storm coincides with the Convocation Ceremony on Sunday, August 28.  As a result, we have decided to cancel all events associated with Convocation including the ceremony, Twilight Induction, and the ice cream social.

We appreciate everyone's assistance and cooperation.
