Nicholas Efren Negrete
Assistant Dean of Students for RetentionNicholas.Negrete@uvm.edu
What is your role at UVM?
In coordination with many departments across campus, I work with students who may be struggling, providing them with a safety net to succeed through challenging moments in their college career. I also facilitate the research and assessment of programs and services throughout the Division of Student and Campus Life, forging a culture of assessment within each and every department in order to meet our Division's and Department's goals and outcomes. Additionally, I advise the Dean of Students Advisory Board, and coordinate the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) throughout the academic year at UVM, as well as the summer intern program.
What do you like most about UVM?
What I like most about UVM is the strong sense of collegiality across campus. I love the sense that everyone is here for one reason: students. There is a genuine care and concern for all of our students, and it is great to have colleagues who share the same passion as I do around student development and a strong sense of campus community.
What do students need to know to succeed at UVM?
I believe in order for any student to succeed is to first, be true to yourself. You came to UVM for a reason, and it is important for you to live out your passion, because that is what will keep you here, and that is what will continue to make your life exciting. To give you a more practical answer, students need to know that UVM has a number of programs and services that will enhance their college experience and allow them to perform at their most optimal level. Get involved, make new friends, stretch your comfort zones, explore a new community! All of these things and more will only enhance your UVM and Vermont experience, and you will undoubtedly succeed!
As I get older I am enjoying the outdoors more, so I like a good hike, a nice trail run, or just hanging out at the beach (yes, I am a Californian). I hate to admit but I love a good romantic comedy, anything that makes me laugh, and truly love spending time with friends and family.
