Getting Started

Because the issues and assessment needs that each unit faces are unique, we provide points to consider, primarily as ways to get started. We do not believe that “one tool fits all.” We expect that you will select and modify items to fit your unit’s needs. 

We recognize that personnel in student affairs units will have varying degrees of experience and types of expertise. This section is intended to serve as a very basic introduction to program assessment. As such, some of the information in it may not be useful to those with more experience. The resources/reference section includes more sophisticated sources of information for those who seek more background.
