Middle Level Education

Thinking about Teaching? Think about Middle Level!

If you think about it for a minute, you can probably recall those middle school years. That time can be both wonderful and challenging, with the tricky social scene, an urge to try new things, a desire for more responsibility, and the highs and lows that seem to go with being a young adolescent.

Youth this age need caring and dynamic teachers to help them navigate the transition between childhood and adulthood. If you are flexible, creative and collaborative-- and if you like the idea of helping kids as they experiment with new identities-- you just might have what it takes to be a middle grades teacher!

The Middle Level Education Program at the University of Vermont understands that teachers who work with young adolescents require a unique set of knowledge and skills that focus exclusively on the needs of this age group. Our nationally award-winning program is among a select few that are specifically designed to stand-alone, rather than act as part of a secondary or extended elementary program. This critical difference recognizes the importance of ages ten to fifteen in shaping the future success of students.
