Dance Program
Student Opportunities
Dancing Uphill
Each spring the Dance Program produces Dancing Uphill, an evening of performance that features student, faculty, and guest artist choreography. Past guest artists have included Lorelei Bayne, Sheriefs Gamble, Heidi Henderson, Nicholas Leichter, Susan Levine, Tiffany Rhynard, and Jan Van Dyke. Auditions for Dancing Uphill typically take place during the fall semester.
American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA)
UVM is an institutional member of ACDFA (www.acdfa.org). Students attend the ACDFA New England Regional Conference offered
each spring at various campuses throughout New England. This conference offers university dance students the opportunity to
study with professionals and present works from their university dance programs, creating an invaluable exchange. Two UVM student choreographers have been chosen for ACDFA regional "best of" Gala Concerts; in 2008, Heather Cairl received honors for her solo Dirthead at the Connecticut College conference, and Meghan Burgess' solo Quickie was chosen at the 2010 Boston University conference.
Vermont/Nebraska Exchange
The UVM Dance Program is participating in an ongoing exchange program with The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students
and faculty from Nebraska have performed in the 2008, 2009, and 2010 UVM dance concerts. UVM dance students and faculty travelled
to Lincoln, Nebraska to perform in their spring concert April 2009.
Dance Tour
Each year, the UVM Dance Program takes dance "on the road." In 2008, UVM and Nebraska dancers traveled around New
England to perform works from the spring concert. Performance sites included The Moving Company (Keene, NH),
Springfield High School (Springfield, VT), Rafael Hernandez Elementary School (Roxbury, MA) and Christopher Columbus
High School (Bronx, NY)
