Announcing the 2007 Benedict Prize Winners

Recent Postings:

2007 marks the 29th anniversary of the founding of the Society of Lesbian and Gay Anthropologists, or SOLGA.

Formerly known as the Anthropology Research Group on Homosexuality (ARGOH), SOLGA grew out of contacts made at AAA meetings and held its first annual business meeting in Los Angeles, in 1978. It became an official section of the American Anthropological Association when the AAA Executive Board voted to add SOLGA as a new section during their January 1998 meeting.

SOLGA sponsors two sets of prizes including the prestigious Ruth Benedict Award in Anthropology and has been coordinating scientific panels at the annual AAA meetings for years. SOLGA also sponsors a list service (click here for directions to join).

Graduate Students: we would like to encourage you (and your professors!) to submit your papers for the annual student prize, the Kenneth Payne Award.

See the Awards section for further details.
