AAA Annual Meeting

Washington, DC

Marriott Wardman Park Hotel • November 28 - December 2, 2007

Difference, (In)equality, & Justice

We invite your submissions for the 2007 AAA. The theme this year
is "Difference, (In)equality, & Justice":

Anthropology has historically had a commitment to analyzing human
differences. The differences we study range from biologically endowed
variations in skeletal biology and DNA to socially constructed,
culturally elaborated and politically mediated heterogeneities manifest
both within and across human societies. Complex ethnic, linguistic and
religious pluralisms, intersecting forms of racial and class
stratification, and gender and sexual hierarchies are significant and
commonly volatile features within societies and across the national and
transnational landscapes where they are mapped.

This a great theme for SOLGA, and Nais and I look forward to excellent
papers and sessions. Please use the list-serv for CFPs, or email us if
you would like any assistance putting together a session.

Please also email us if you have any ideas about alternative formats. The AAA is very interested in discussion or roundtable-type events, for example, as well as sessions that involve DC policy folks. Finally, the AAA is super-strict about this: you can only have 2 roles on the "official scientific program" (1 paper, and 1 organizer/chair/discussant). If you want to organize a special event -- something that is not part of the scientific program -- this does not count as an official role. Lunch-time and evening time slots are available for these special events -- please email Nais and I if you have an idea for something along these lines.

SUBMISSION INFO:
The deadline for submission for ALL papers, panels, and posters to AAA is 5 pm EST, March 30. You must be registered and an AAA member by that deadline as well. Online submission is open now.

SOLGA has 3.75 hours of invited session time (that's two sessions), and we will be considering *all* panels submitted to SOLGA via the AAA website for the invited slots. We prefer to sponsor two separate single sessions, rather than one double session, in order to increase SOLGA's visibility on the program. Panel organizers are also STRONGLY encouraged to seek co-sponsorship with other sections: if a panel is, for example, co-sponsored by AFA, that counts as 1/2 a session, allowing SOLGA to spread out a bit on the program. If you are thinking about co-sponsorship and want suggestions or assistance, please email Nais and I BEFORE the deadline.

Panels will be selected for invited status based on: quality of both individual papers and overall session, relevance to SOLGA's mission (exciting new research on sexualities), cohesiveness, and relevance to conference theme.

You can submit online at http://www.aaanet.org/mtgs/mtgs.htm

All proposals must be submitted by March 30 and panels may be eliminated if any portion of the panel is incomplete.

After you have submitted your proposal, please let both of us know (so we can keep track): Nais Dave (naisargi.dave@utoronto.ca) and Margot Weiss (margot.weiss@duke.edu)
