Gabriela Da Silva - Riley

I came to UVM from Vermont, which is not the most racially diverse area in the world. But, coming here I was hoping to kind of encounter more diversity because of growing up where I did. However, it is mostly white here, but I have found that there is a huge support network at UVM … and that was really kind of special, I guess, in the sense that we have the ALANA Center and all these other resources on campus that I kind of became involved in and was able to find the ALANA community here at UVM and kind of explore that part of me because I had grown up in Vermont.

I've become involved while I'm here in student groups on campus like the Latin American Student Aliance, Alianza Latina, and then also heavily involved with the Living and Learning Programing for ALANA students as well. So I have found my community, and I think that's pretty important, and that's what I was hoping to do here.
