"Every American should read Blood on the Border to understand the shady and dubious role played in Central America
by the men who are forging US foreign policy in the world today"... GiocondaBelli

Tuesday April 18, 5:30 pm
    Lecture in Memorial Lounge,
 Waterman Building, University of Vermont

Professor Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, well-known historian and human rights activist, will be making public appearances in Burlington in April launching a new book she has written, Blood on the Border: A Memoir of the Contra War (South End Press, 2005).
In it she vividly recounts on-the-ground memories of the US supported war in Nicaragua to destroy the Sandinista Revolution. Especially relevant are her insights into the CIA exploitation of historical grievances between the indigenous peoples on Nicaragua’s Atlantic Coast and central governments in Managua.
The Dunbar-Ortiz visit is sponsored by a unique collaboration of various UVM departments, Burlington College, and the Burlington/Puerto Cabezas Sister City Progam. It was reaction against the US sponsored contra war in Nicaragua that led to Burlington’s Sister City relationship with Puerto Cabezas in 1984, a relationship that has grown over the past 22 years.  <www.uvm.edu/sistercity>

While Professor Dunbar-Ortiz is in Burlington she will provide a public reading and talk Tuesday evening, April 18, 5:30, in UVM’s Memorial Lounge in the Waterman Building. On Wednesday evening, April 19, from 6-8 she will give an informal presentation at Burlington College, followed by a reception by the Burlington/ Puerto Cabezas Sister City Program.  All events are free and open to the public.
