"The Committee of Volunteers for the Reforestation and the Protection
of the Environment (COVORPA) is a group of young people form the community
of Reyes Mantecon, in Oaxaca. Approximately five years ago we got together
to try to stop the destruction of the environment in our community. Very
quickly we found out that our work on behalf of the environment could not
be separated from many other aspects of life in our community. We started
to look for options to create our own jobs, rooted in spaces and customs
of our rural farming community."
from the founder of COVORPA
The Place
COVORPA is an educational learning center with dormitories and eating
facilities located 30 minutes from the city of Oaxaca, in the rural farming
community of Reyes Mantecon.
