National Middle School Association Archives at UVM!
(reprint of announcement, Fall 1998)
We are extremely pleased to announce the acquisition of the archives of the National Middle School Association for the Research Collections Department of Bailey-Howe Library at the University of Vermont. With the help of Board member, Craig Kridel, The John Dewey Project worked collaboratively with Chris Stevenson of UVM to acquire this important collection. Additionally, a national solicitation has been launched to build an historic and complete collection of materials pertaining to the education of young adolescent students.
On September 11, 1998, some fifty middle level educators
from Vermont and the rest of New England and University of Vermont personnel
came together to meet and hear Susan Swaim, NMSA Executive Director, and
Dr. John Lounsbury, distinguished middle level author and advocate.
At this time, Lounsbury presented historic materials to Dr. Connell Gallagher,
Director of Special Collections, to officially commemorate the alliance
between NMSA and UVM. The collection will be a resource to scholars
from around the country as well as to middle level educators in Vermont
and New England.
