In the ongoing tradition of introducing our audiences to some of the finest young ensembles performing today, we proudly present the Daedalus Quartet. The quartet was founded in the summer of 2000, and one year later captured the Grand Prize of the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition, quickly establishing itself as among America's outstanding string quartets. They have already performed in many of the world's major venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Joined by the dazzling American pianist Awadagin Pratt* they will perform Mozart: String Quartet in C, K. 465 "Dissonant", Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 3 in F major, Op. 73 and Schumann: Quintet for Piano & Strings in E-flat major, Op. 44.
* Awadagin Pratt was the first African-American pianist to win an international competition (the Naumberg, 1992), was the first student in the history of the Peabody Institute to win certificates in both piano and violin. He's performed with almost every major orchestra in this country including the New York Philharmonic, and appeared at the Clinton White House, and on Sesame Street!
