CTLDOC Meeting - Spring 2008/1/30

Agenda as clicker-friendly powerpoint

The Agenda, configured as clicker questions. (How else could we get through all this in a half hour?) Feel free to edit as needed.

1) How shall we maintain the software installs on the new machines? When we want new things installed or changes made we will:

a) just give it to Wes and he'll take care of it asap

b) just give it to one of the handful of people Wes trains and they will install it asap

c) just do it ourselves after Wes teaches us how

d) store up, or jot down, changes and ask Wes (or designate) to do it once (twice? thrice?) a semester

e) run Windows updates or add new apps piecemeal whenever we have a Dr shift, but note which machines were altered

2) As we become familiar with Parallels we will all learn new tips and tricks. We should:

a) note these and send them to ctldoc

b) jot these down in the ctldoc wiki pages in an area devoted to them

c) just spread the word in an ad hoc manner

d) don't worry about documenting anything--we'll all figure it out as we go along

e) stay in the Mac side and ignore Parallels altogether--our clients can learn to use Macs

3) We should label our new machines and maintain an inventory by

a) assigning someone (Steve?) to decide how and where to label the machines

b) deciding right now as a group how to label them

c) wait for someone to volunteer

d) don't label them--Nina has all the serial numbers anyway

4) We should maintain a room inventory of all machines in the room by

a) posting a list to the wiki

b) posting a list, on paper, to the cabinet door

c) both of the above

5) With the new cabinet we have an opportunity to rethink storage for the room. We should:

a) just keep everything we have (and each volunteer to neaten up a bit during Dr shifts)

b) get rid of the wire rack but keep the cabinet (and each volunteer to neaten up a bit during Dr shifts)

c) get rid of the wire rack and the cabinet and buy a bigger cabinet (and each volunteer to neaten up a bit during Dr shifts)

6) We are beginning to get Blackboard enquiries. Do we need a FAQ?

a) Yes, and it should be posted to the wiki for us to refer to

b) Yes, and it should be posted on the Blackboard blog so we can direct people to it

c) No, a FAQ is too much hassle to maintain. We'll just answer clients as best we can as questions arise

d) a and b

7) Kathy Fox has requested use of 303 and the laptops for several Tues/Thurs sessions in March and April for a class that runs 9:30-10:45. We should:

a) let them use the room but don't tell the web team they will be here (hehehe)

b) let them use the room but warn the web team

c) don't let them use the room: this might be setting a bad precedent
