Hybrid Course Initiative

Application Information for Spring 2014 Cohort (Team)

We are now accepting team applications for the second cohort in the pilot phase (Phase 2, Cohort A) of this project. Team applicants should have experience using Blackboard and other instructional technology. The course they wish to redesign as a hybrid should be scheduled to be taught in Fall 2014 or Spring 2015. The following is a summary of what is expected from team participants, and how teams will be supported by the hybrid initiative as they redesign their courses:

Phase 2 Cohort A: Participation Expectations

  • Approval from your Department Chair and Dean
  • Teach the hybrid course for the first time in Fall 2014 or Spring 2015
  • Commitment to teach the hybrid course twice in 3-year period
  • Share your experiences and course materials as a part of a case study co-authored by CTL staff
  • Participate in a faculty development program (4 meetings total, plus any trainings on specific software or technology)
  • Work with CTL staff to create accessible course materials (e.g. captioning of screencasts; screen-reader ready pdf; implementing UDL principles)
  • Participate in course and program formative and summative evaluations

Team Support

  • The team lead will receive either a University laptop and software for developing course materials (specific configuration of Mac or Windows) OR a course release
  • Work with a Hybrid Instructional Designer (CTL staff) in developing the course
  • Receive a team grant up to $1000 to pay for related course development expenses (e.g. TA costs; captioning costs; equipment; attendance at a related professional development workshop)
  • Access to student technical support staff (“TechCat”) for implementing course technologies including captioning screencasts
