Graduate Counseling Program
Welcome to the UVM Counseling Program
The University of Vermont Graduate Counseling Program is designed to prepare students with the professional knowledge and skills they need to act as facilitators of change and growth for individuals, groups, and organizations.
Counseling Program graduates receive a Master of Science degree and are prepared to work as professional counselors in a wide variety of settings.

National Accrediations
The Mental Health and School Counseling tracks of the UVM Counseling Program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the national accrediting body for counselor education programs. Our College is also accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
School and/or Mental Health Counseling
Students who complete the School Counseling track, a 48 credit-hour CACREP accredited program, are eligible to be licensed to practice as school counselors in the State of Vermont. The Mental Health Counseling track, a 60 credit-hour CACREP accredited program, prepares graduates for licensure in Vermont as mental health counselors, with additional post-degree requirements. Students also have an option to enroll in the Dual Option (67 credit-hours), completing educational requirements in the state of Vermont to be eligible for licensure in both school counseling and mental health counseling.
New Part Time Cohort Program
Interested in earning a Master’s Degree in School and/or Mental Health Counseling while still working your day job? The new Part Time Cohort Program is structured so that enrolled students can take all of their non-field-based courses on a part time basis during the late afternoon or evening (after 4 PM) two days a week.
