UVM Crew Coaches


Varsity and Novice Women



Coach: Doug Connelly



Doug Connelly is excited to bring ten years of rowing and coaching experience to the University of Vermont. Most recently, he was Head Rowing Coach at Franklin Pierce University (2004 - 2009), guiding the men's and women's varsity crews. The FPU Ravens enjoyed success at regional regattas such as Knecht Cup and New England Fours Championship.

Doug Connelly rowed at Colby College from 1995 - 1999, earning medals at Head of the Charles, New England Rowing Championships, and ECACs. In his senior year, Connelly helped his crew win the New England Men's Point Trophy and his team awarded him with Colby's 'Spirit of the Oarsmen' Award. Following graduation, Connelly joined Coach Steenstra at The Ohio State University, coaching the novice men.

Coach Connelly balances coaching with backcountry guiding for the National Outdoor Leadership School and teaches at various educational organizations. He holds a masters degree in environmental science. Off the water, he is happiest skiing powder with his wife Liz.



Varsity Men



Coach: Ian Anderson



Ian began rowing as a freshman at UVM in 2006, has won the MV4 at New England Championships twice, and served two years as Men's Team President. He began coaching while attending Graduate School at UVM, and helped coach the novice men from 2010-2012, including winning a Silver in the MN4 at the ACRA National Championships. Novice Men



Coach: Casey Clark



Casey Clark is our new Men's Novice coach as of the 2008-2009 season, and a recent graduate of UVM. In her first year her two boats both made it to the NERC grand finals, with her first boat taking the silver medal. Since then, she has sent boats to medal at ACRA National Championships, New Englands, and other prestigous races in New England. Her e-mail is cclark@uvm.edu.

Looking for a new sport this year? Try Crew! With over 50 rowers UVM Crew has become a big name in the rowing community. Stop by our tent this Saturday at the welcome picnic for more information, or email our coaches Ian and Doug to learn more about the team. Practices are open to all prospective athletes, no expirence required. Practices start Monday August 28th @ 5:30pm in the Patrick Gym Lobby. Bring Sneakers, Gym Clothes, and Water.



Rent-A-Rower

Our team is 100% student run. That means we pay for our own equipment, entry fees, professional coaching, and other expenses through fundraising and generous donations from our supporters. If you need help raking leaves, painting, shoveling snow, or any other task you see fit for a group of Burlington Rowers, drop us a line (or an oar handele) and let us help you out.
