Solo Week Song  11/30/05

"Choose a song that captures the experience of your solo week.  Tell why."
Goodbye Yellow Bring Road
by Elton John

My solo weeks went great but it just became a reality that this is what I will be doing.  I no longer will be going into other teacher's classrooms and doing a lesson here or there within the safety net.  When I think of the yellow brick road, I think of a type of fantasy where nothing goes wrong and if something does it will be fixed.  Kerri
A Sonny Rollins Jazz Number

It's difficult to think of a song off the top of my head, but a tune that is busy and instrumental comes to mind.  It was an enjoyable two weeks filled with busy days and times.  There was a lot of improvisation going on as well as a few slower peaceful moments as well - just like a Sonny Rollins riff.   Meghan
If You're Happy...

If you're happy and you know it clap your hands...
If you're sad and youkonw it you may cry...
If you're silly and you know it, you may laugh...
If you're mad and you know it, you may stamp your feet...

This song fits accordingly because we sang it every morning and I had at least one student go through each of these emotions every day.
Cheer-Up Charlie
Willy Wonka

Because I was too hard on my self during the week before vacation, CI week, and our lock down drill.  My kids were very "off" and I had to stop and take a step back and realize that my kids were doing the best they could, even though they were a little off (wired, crying, frustrated, not listening, refusing...and so on).  My teacher told me that I was being too hard on my self and I needed to know that a better day might come next...and she was right.  It all went fine.  Emily
I'm Bringing Home A Baby Bumblebee

I chose this song because during my solo weeks I felt my patience level drop.  I also felt at times that I was overwhelmed with kids asking me ?s because I was the only teacher around.  The some keeps going ..., never ending..., one thing after another, just like class.  (Not talking about the "smack" part.)  Sara
A Composition On The Spot

Remember the successes and challenges
All the smiles, crys, and laughter, too
And if you remember it all,
That will sum up my solo for you!

The first few days were rocky but in the end, things felt so great.  Everyone had memories to share with their friends/family on a later date.  Erin
The Weight by The Band

Now that it's over, I feel like a weight lifted off me and I can finally "take a load off".

Except I still have the CI paper and the portfolio... .
I'm So Excited!

It went really well.  It was exciting to see how great the kids reacted to everything and how good they were.  Gillian
Wouldn't It Be Something If Everything Changed?

Everything did seem to change and it was a tough start to the week.  They did settle bck down at the end of week #1 and seemed like they were getting back into the flow of things.  Week 2 - this week - It was hard to come back from vacation and solo again.  i didn't teach the two days before Thanksgiving so they were used to seeing my mentor teacher again.  I've been reintroducing myself this week to the class.   Will
Respect

During my solo weeks the children were very disrespectful for parts of the two weeks.  mainly trying to get them to listen and not talk when others were talking.  We had to pull children aside and talk about r-e-s-p-c-t.  But for the most part, the weeks went very well.  Amanda
