EdEl 188 What I Want To Learn This Semester ? Spring 2006
I would really like to learn how to manage a class when some are being rowdy and others completely out of control.  As a single teacher in a room, what do you do? Effective planning and meeting the needs and interests of my students.  Also, how to add 12 hours to my day.  JP Philosophies and child/teacher psychology of managing behavior;  also, like to hear/see personal success (and not so successful) stories/methods. JP I would like to learn how to structure/schedule the day to elicit the highest level of learning and interest (breaks, transitions, refocusing techniques, ...).
How to give students the tools and guidelines so they can be more independent and self-motivated. How to create a student centered class. I'd really like to learn how to earn the students' respect without having to raise my voice or "threaten" them.  SB As much as possible about Complex Instruction and The Responsive Classroom. How to establish classroom management early on so kids know that they must do what I ask.  I want to do so while at the same time making sure they know I care and that I'm not "all business."  I want to establish that early so they don't try to push limits or think they can get away with things.  CE
I would really like to be able to get children motivated and interested in learning so there are few management problems.  MK I would like to learn how to make my students independent and be the center of the classroom instead of the focus primarily being on the teacher.  I want to be able to create a child directed class. AW I would really like to learn more about discipline and management and balancing this with a positive teacher/student relationship. How to balance humor with discipline.  How is it possible to manage behavior without being tough and serious all the time?
How to keep students motivation levels up. KF Being ale to make everything fit.  It seems that teachers wouldn't have lives outside of the classroom.  My teachers are always working and planning. Like to know how my mentor always remains calm and stress free when students act out.  How do we get to the place where students don't need to act out and always listen to one another and the teacher.  ES I just want to learn different techniques for handling those kids with rough backgrounds who do resist you.
Classroom management strategies are something I really need to learn.  I want to learn how to gain control and keep it in a positive way.  JP I've seen classes get out of control when work is too hard/easy for many students.  How can I be sure lessons are appropriate for all students and encourage studens to stay "on task" while working independently in the classroom.  LM I would like to learn more effective ways to "get into the heads" of the kids who seem to be resisting instruction.  I would like to be more effective in my communication.
