Verification of Effort
Quarterly Verifications of Effort (Semi-monthly employees only)
Confirmation of effort throughout the fiscal year is an important University policy requirement to comply with the plan confirmation approach. Taking a few moments each quarter to verify that your effort report information remains reasonable in relation to your respective planned activities will ensure a higher percentage of subsequent salary charges to sponsored agreements will be correct and 'after-the-fact' changes will be minimized.
Faculty and applicable staff shall verify their own respective effort reports. Individuals who have direct evidence of worked performed by another individual may verify that individual effort. Although a responsible University official with suitable means of verification may verify an employee's effort report, it is encouraged that each employee or someone with first hand knowledge of an employee verifies effort.
The recommended business practice is for faculty and staff to meet with their respective Unit effort administrator and review/discuss their recent and planned effort on sponsored agreements. Any anticipated or retroactive significant changes of effort resulting from the meeting should be communicated to the appropriate responsible official or designee in a timely manner.
