- Hormones and the Brain Research Program:
- Post-Menopausal Research: The overarching goal of this program is to conduct clinical research studies that seek to understand the mechanisms behind changes in cognition and behavior that occur in women after menopause.
- Other Womans Research:
- ADHD Research: This research program analyzes the differences in cognitive functioning in those with and without ADHD using functional MRI (fMRI) across developmental stages. We are also examining whether nicotine, the psychoactive constituent of tobacco, may have positive effects on cognitive and motor processes involving attention that appear to be impaired in many adolescents and young adults with ADHD.
- Nicotinic Research and Therapeutics Program: Current research focuses on therapeutic drug development for early memory loss and the importance of nicotinic systems in cognitive disorders like ADHD, Parkinson's disease, and schizophrenia.
- Functional Brain Imaging Program: Its primary goal is to perform functional brain imaging studies utilizing the UVM’s Imaging Resource Center.
- Nicotine Treatment of Impulsivity in Parkinson's Disease: The study will examine whether treatment with nicotine (delivered through the skin via a patch) improves computer-based laboratory and clinical measures of impulsive and compulsive behaviors in those with Parkinson's disease who have recently experienced an impulse control disorder (ICD). - Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) Research The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a psychotherapeutic approach, group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), alters the dysfunctional emotional and sensory neural circuitry associated with chronic pain as examined by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
