Dr. Potter is a research assistant professor at the Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont.

Alexi received her BA from the University of Vermont in 1996, and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont in May of 2003. She maintains a part-time clinical practice focusing primarily on working with families of children who have neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Primarily, her laboratory conducts research studies focused on understanding the role of nicotinic receptor systems in the cognitive symptoms of disorders associated with impaired impulse control: i.e. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), substance use disorders, schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. This work examines cognitive domains such as attention, reward processing, and behavioral inhibition using multiple approaches including cognitive testing, acute pharmacologic manipulation and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
