The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers a high-quality and distinctive first-year experience. Throughout your first year, students have opportunities to interact with faculty, staff and peers through academic, co-curricular and social programs. At specific times during the academic year, students attend small group advising meetings with faculty members and peers in their home departments to discuss curricular requirements and progression through the major. Information sessions and workshops are offered to students throughout the academic year. Students can also meet individually with any of the friendly, knowledgeable staff in the Office of Student Services. They are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In the fall semester, faculty hold group advising in the first week of school and during pre-registration. These group sessions allow students to interact with their peers and help students become familiar with many different faculty from the College. Group advising will help answer your questions regarding curricular choices and department policies.
Offered throughout the fall semester, these sessions help you to plan your time on campus and explore all of the options available to you. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has events and sessions geared towards students in all years, but these sessions are specifically designed for first year students to help ground you in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
During the spring semester students have the opportunity to meet with faculty members from your department to plan your second semester and prepare for your sophomore year. Prior to registration for sophomore classes, students are matched with a faculty advisor, who will serve as their advisor for the next three years.
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences values diverse perspectives and collaboration among our health colleagues. We believe this collaboration begins early in a student's academic career. During the first semester of a student's curriculum all CNHS students are required to take NH 50. Applications to Health: From perspectives to systems.
