Transfer Application Questions/Answers

For External Transfer Applicants

What are the application deadlines for transfer?

There are two application deadlines: November 1 for the spring semester (Nursing transfer applications are reviewed at the end of the spring semester only); April 1 for the fall semester.

When will I receive a decision letter?

Admission letters will be sent during the first week of January for the spring semester; mid–June for the fall semester.

What should my application include?
  • complete application form
  • official high school transcript
  • official transcripts from all post–secondary institutions
  • letter(s) of recommendation
  • $45.00 (U.S.) application fee
Are interviews required?

No. Interviews are informational only and not required.

What is the average GPA of admitted transfer students?

All applications are reviewed regardless of GPA. Recently admitted transfer students have had GPAs in the 3.0 or higher range. Please note, however, that admission is contingent upon space available in each of the majors and even highly qualified students may not be admitted to the program if there are no seats available for new students.

Will I be eligible for any financial aid?

You must submit the FAFSA form in order to be considered for financial aid. Financial eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.

For Internal Nursing Transfer Applicants

What is the application deadline for transfer?

The application deadline is May 15th. Students who have completed coursework for the first year of the nursing curriculum will be considered for admission as sophomores. Applications need to be returned to the Office of Student Services, 002 Rowell.

When will I receive a decision letter?

Admission letters will be sent mid–June.

What factors will be considered when reviewing my application?
  • cumulative UVM grade point average (GPA)
  • performance in college-level science coursework to date
  • clarity of essay as related to applicant’s future professional goals and/or previous experience (if applicable)
  • letter of recommendation which addresses applicant’s aptitude and suitability for the nursing profession
  • capacity within class for which applicant is eligible to be admitted

What is the average GPA of admitted transfer students?

All applications are reviewed regardless of GPA. However, it is important to note that the average GPA of transfer students recently admitted to the Department of Nursing is approximately 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
