Peggy Owen Sands Email:

Pediatric Physical Therapy is Clinical Prof. Peggy Owen Sand's area of expertise for teaching, mentoring and clinical practice. She assists Prof. Deborah O'Rourke with teaching the pediatric laboratory classes. They believe that providing hands-on experiences with children who develop typically and atypically will provide the best learning environment for students.

The Vermont Interdisciplinary Leadership Education for Health Professionals program (VT-ILEHP) provides one-year, in-depth interdisciplinary training for practicing physical therapists. Peggy is a mentor for the physical therapy fellows as they participate in interdisciplinary pediatric assessments of children within the schools throughout Vermont. Deborah O'Rourke mentors the physical therapy fellows on the research component within the program.

Peggy works in the public school systems in Vermont on a part-time basis. She helps students, ages 3-13 years of age, to access their education to their fullest capability. She provides information to teachers and individual assistants to help them understand the medical aspect of a student's situation. She has practiced pediatric physical therapy as a main focus since 1983.
