(Arrival Time) What time should I arrive?

Doors to the Patrick Gym and Multipurpose Facility will open to the public at 7:30 a.m.

The December Commencement Ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Facility in the UVM Athletic Complex. Seating is open and available on a first-come first-served basis. We ask that guests be in their seat before the Academic Procession begins at 9:00 a.m. Once the procession has started, guest access to the  Multipurpose Facility will be blocked in order to allow the procession to enter uninterrrupted. The Academic Procession includes students, faculty and members of the platform party.  Once the procession has ended, guest access to the Multipurpose Facility will resume.

Commencement parking is located on the athletic campus in the Gutterson Parking Garage near the Patrick Gym/Multipurpose Facility.

If you have mobililty limitations and would like to request accommodations for parking please complete the online Deaf and Disability Accommodation Request Form.

(ASL. Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deaf Blind.  Hearing Amplification)  A member of my party is Deaf. Will ASL interpreters be present?

Yes. ASL interpreters and live captioning (CART: Communication Access Realtime Translation) will be provided at the December Commencement Ceremony.

Also, guests who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deaf-Blind, may make arrangements for accommodations for parking, amplification, captioning, interpreters, large print or Braille programs, by completing the online Deaf and Disability Accommodation Request Form.

(Bookstore)  Will the UVM Bookstore be open?

On Saturday, December 14, the UVM Bookstore will have a kiosk in the lobby of Patrick Gym for last minute purchases from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Also on Saturday, the main bookstore in the Davis Center at 590 Main Street will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the Catamount Store on the Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

(December or May Ceremonies)  May a graduate who participates in the December 2013 Commencement Ceremony also participate in the May 2014 Commencement Ceremony? 

Eligible students may choose to participate in the December or May commencement ceremonies.  Eligible students who choose to participate in the December Commencement Ceremony may not participate in the May Commencement Ceremony.

(Diplomas)  When will graduates receive their diplomas?

Degrees will be conferred by the president at the December Commencement Ceremony.  Diplomas will be mailed in October to students who completed their academic requirements by the end of the summer. Diplomas will be mailed in January to students who completed their academic requirements by the end of the fall semester. Graduates are asked to confirm their post commencement mailing address by updating their permanent address from within myUVM. Questions regarding diplomas should be addressed to the registrar's office 802-656-2045.

(DVD)  Will the December Commencement Ceremony be available on DVD?

Yes, a DVD of the December Commencement Ceremony will be available from the UVM Bookstore for $19.99 plus $7.99 shipping and handling (please allow 4 weeks after the Commencement Ceremony for delivery). Pre-orders may be placed online or at the UVM Bookstore.

(Flowers - Display)  What happens to the beautiful flower arrangements that decorate the commencement venue?

Many beautiful floral arrangements are used to enhance the stage for commencement. At the end of commencement, these flowers will be donated to local nursing homes so that their beauty may continue to be enjoyed.

(Flowers - To Purchase)  Will I be able to purchase flowers to give to my graduate at commencement?

Yes, the Golden Key International Honour Society will be selling flower bouquets in the main lobbies of Patrick Gym and the Multipurpose Facility.

(Information) On the day of commencement where can I go for more information?

A staffed information desk will be available in the main lobby of Patrick Gymnasium. Commencement Ushers will be available to direct guests in the Athletic Complex. Staff wearing yellow vests will be available to assist with requests for FM hearing impaired devices, commencement programs in Braille, and special assistance seating.

(Lodging)  Where do I stay?

Off-campus, there are many hotel/motel options in the Burlington area.  Please visit the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce website for more information.

(Mobility Limitations)  A member of my party has mobility limitations. What accommodations are available?

Guests who have mobility limitations may make arrangements for accommodations for parking by completing the online Deaf and Disability Accommodation Request Form.

(Parking)  Where do I park for the December Commencement Ceremony?

(Photographs)  Will there be a photographer at the December Commencement Ceremony?

GradImages photographed all students that walked at the December Commencement ceremony. To find your commencement proofs, please visit www.gradimages.com and use your last name and school name to locate your account. You can also call the GradImages Customer Service at 800-261-2576 for additional assistance.

University of Vermont Photography took candid photographs of the event.  A photo gallery will be posted on the main page of the December Commencement website shortly after December 14th for review and purchase.

(Reception)  Will there be a reception?

No, there will not be a formal reception following the December Commencement Ceremony. However, light refreshments will be available in the Multipurpose Facility at the end of the ceremony.

(Refreshments)  What type of refreshments will be available on campus?

Complimentary coffee service will be available in the Multipurpose Facility beginning at 7:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be available following the ceremony.

(Seating Layout)  Where do I sit at the December Commencement Ceremony?

Seating is open and available on a first-come first-served basis. Jumbo screens will be positioned in the Multipurpose Facility to ensure that all guests have a good view.

We ask that guests be in their seat before the Academic Procession begins at 9:00 a.m. (doors open at 7:30 a.m.). Once the procession has started, guest access to the  Multipurpose Facility will be blocked in order to allow the procession to enter uninterrrupted. The Academic Procession includes students, faculty and members of the platform party.  After the procession has ended, guest access to the Multipurpose Facility will resume.

(Tickets)  Do I need tickets to attend the December Commencement Ceremony?

No, tickets are not required to attend the December Commencement Ceremony. Students are asked to RSVP regarding the number of guests they are bringing. RSVPs will be requested by email to the students’s UVM email account and replies will be submitted online.

(Visually Impaired)  A member of my party is visually impaired. What accommodations are available?

Guests who are Visually Impaired may make arrangements for accommodations for parking, amplification, captioning, interpreters, large print or Braille programs by completing the online Deaf and Disability Accommodation Request Form.

(Walk Policy) What is the University’s policy on allowing students to “walk” at commencement?

“Walking” is the term used to indicate student participation in Commencement exercises.  Walking in UVM’s Commencement exercises, however, does not necessarily indicate degree completion or a guarantee thereof.  Only when all requirements are completed will a student’s degree be awarded. Undergraduate students who have completed all degree requirements are eligible to walk in the UVM and College/School Commencement ceremonies.  In addition, undergraduate students who are within six credits of completing all degree requirements and have a plan to complete all remaining requirements may, with the approval of their dean’s office, walk in the UVM and College/School Commencement ceremonies.

(Weather) What happens if there is a severe winter storm?

The December Commencement Ceremony will be held indoors in the Multipurpose Facility on the Athletic Campus. Tickets are not required.  In the event of a severe winter storm that would make travel unsafe, the December Commencement Ceremony will be cancelled. An announcement will be posted on the UVM home page at www.uvm.edu or call (802) 656-3309 or toll free (800) 903-6601 for updates.

(Webcast)  Will there be a live webcast of the December Commencement Ceremony?

Yes, those unable to attend the December Commencement Ceremony may view a live webcast by following the link posted on the university December Commencement website.

In addition, a link to the video recording of the December Commencement Ceremony will be posted on the December Commencement website shortly after December 14.
