Academic Ceremonies - December Celebrations
December Graduates' Reception
Wednesday, December 14, 2016
Grand Maple Ballroom, Dudley H. Davis Center
The University will host a reception for October and December graduates to recognize their accomplishments and celebrate informally with members of the University community. The reception for October and December graduates will be held on December 14, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Grand Maple Ballroom at the Dudley H. Davis Center.
Please note this reception is not a commencement ceremony. President Sullivan will address graduates as a whole and graduates will not be individually recognized. We encourage graduates and their guests to join us for the 2017 May Commencement Ceremony where graduates will be individually recognized as they walk across the stage and receive their degree.
Eligible graduates should check their UVM email for the invitation to the December Graduates' Reception and link to RSVP in mid-November.
Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
For questions regarding December Celebrations, please contact Kelly O'Malley, Coordinator of Presidential Events at (802) 656-3272 or Academic_Ceremonies@uvm.edu
For questions regarding the Graduate Hooding Ceremony, please contact Kimberly Hess in the Graduate College at (802) 656-3874 or Beverly.Sheldon@uvm.edu.
Please note: diplomas for October graduates will be mailed out to graduates in late October and diplomas for December graduates will be mailed to graduates in late January.
The May Commencement exercises, which includes the University Commencement Main Ceremony, individual College and School ceremonies where diplomas are distributed, the Graduate College Commencement Ceremony, the College of Medicine Commencement Ceremony, and the Honors College Scholars Recognition Ceremony is the annual occasion when the University celebrates the accomplishments of its students by conferring degrees.
The changes in 2014 to the University’s Commencement Walk Policy make it more flexible for undergraduate students who are within six credit hours of completing their degree requirements to participate in May Commencement exercises. Students who complete their degree requirements in October or December are invited to return to campus in May for Commencement Weekend and will be eligible to participate in the ceremonies with May graduates.
