1. What time should I arrive?

The University Commencement Main Ceremony – Sunday, May 22

Faculty and students are asked to arrive at 8:00 a.m. at the CBW Green in their regalia, to line-up for the Academic Procession. Faculty Marshals will lead the faculty procession to the University Green. College/School Marshals will lead each college/school in the procession.  The Academic Procession will begin at 8:20 a.m. The University Commencement Main Ceremony will convene at 9:00 a.m. on the University Green.

Two diagrams are available to review the academic procession route and seating plan in the Multipurpose Facility.

Graduate College Commencement Ceremony – Saturday, May 21
Graduate College faculty and students are asked to arrive at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Multipurpose Facility in the Athletic Complex dressed in academic regalia to line-up for the Academic Procession. The Graduate College Commencement Ceremony will begin at 1:00 in Patrick Gymnasium. Graduate degrees will be conferred at this ceremony; students will be hooded and be presented with their diploma.

College of Medicine Commencement Ceremony – Sunday, May 22
College of Medicine faculty and students are asked to arrive at 2:00 p.m. in Cook Commons dressed in academic regalia. The College of Medicine Commencement ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel.  Degrees will be conferred and diplomas distributed at this ceremony, followed by the administration of the oath. 

2. I would like to participate in the academic procession. How may I order academic regalia?

Faculty may rent regalia through the UVM BookstoreOrders must be placed be Monday, April 26.

Faculty may purchase regalia by contacting Balfour representative Paul Trono at 802-658-6126 or by email at paul.trono@balfour-rep.com

  1. Prices for custom regalia orders are available upon request.
  2. “Green Weaver” regalia is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles (cap and gown only) and inexpensively priced. Orders must be placed by March 31.

3. Where will faculty be seated?

Emeriti Faculty, Class of 2010 Emeriti Faculty, and current faculty will sit together in the center, house left seating block.

Dissertation Advisors and faculty with a child or spouse graduating will sit in reserved seating,  house right with easy access to the stage.

4. Where do I park for the 207th Commencement Ceremony?

For commencement events on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, please park in the designated lot for your college or school. 

Graduate College:  Saturday, Gutterson Lot and Garage.  Sunday, please park in the lot designated for your college or school
Honors College:  Saturday, Given Lot.  Sunday, please park in the lot designated for your college or school
Agriculture and Life Sciences:  Gutterson Garage and Parking Lot
Arts and Sciences: Jeffords Hall Lot and Given Lot
Business Administration:  Downtown Burlington
Education and Social Services: Gutterson Garage and Parking Lot
Engineering and Mathematical Sciences: Sheraton Hotel Conference Center Parking Lot
Environment and Natural Resources:  Sheraton Hotel Conference Center Parking Lot
Medicine:  Given Lot
Nursing and Health Sciences:  UHC (University Health Center Lot)

On Saturday, shuttle bus service will be available from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm at designate bus stops at the Given Lot, Ira Allen Chapel and the Davis Center Oval for the Honors College Ceremony and Reception. Buses will run every 10 minutes.

On Sunday, shuttle bus service will be available on Sunday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm at designated bus stops at Patrick Gym, Royall Tyler Theatre, Given Lot, Davis Center Oval and the Sheraton Hotel Conference Center Parking Lot.  (If there is a change of venue due to severe weather, the shuttle route will include the UHC Lot.)  A dedicated shuttle will run between the Flynn Theatre, Hilton Hotel, and Allen House (or Patrick Gym, rain venue). Buses will run every 10 minutes.

5. What should I wear?

The commencement ceremony is an outdoor event and guests are advised to dress appropriately for the weather. Temperatures in May can vary greatly. Clothing that can be layered easily is advisable along with comfortable footwear for walking on grass.  Please plan for the possibility of strong sun as well as wet or cool weather.

6. What happens if it rains?

Commencement will be held outdoors on the University Green, rain or shine. Temperatures in May can vary greatly. Graduates and guests are advised to dress appropriately for the weather.

For visitor comfort, indoor viewing with large screen display will be available in Waterman Memorial Lounge, and Billings-Ira Allen Lecture Hall.

In the event of severe weather, the University Commencement Main Ceremony will be held indoors at the Multipurpose Facility in the Athletic Complex. Overflow seating will be available in the adjoining Patrick Gymnasium where the ceremony will be broadcast live on large screen closed-circuit TV.

Beginning at 1:00 pm, Saturday afternoon, May 21, information regarding a change of venue will be available on the UVM home page at www.uvm.edu or by calling (802) 656-3309 or toll free (800) 903-6601. 

7.  Will there be a webcast of the 207h Commencement Ceremony?

Yes, those unable to attend the 207th commencement ceremony may view a live webcast of the University Commencement Main Ceremony and the College of Medicine Commencement Ceremony.  Links are listed below:
