Academic Ceremonies - Commencement
SGA Vice President
Good morning fellow graduates.
I want everyone to take a moment and think about a time during your collegiate career at UVM where you just gave it up, decided you were not going to reach a deadline. Perhaps it was hitting up dollar drafts on Tuesday night instead of writing that English essay for the second time. Sometimes going against the grain, messing up, not living up to expectations was exactly why we needed to remember why we were here. That independent choice, that one that became ours when we first moved on to campus, four, five, or perhaps six years ago. That has been what college is all about. And if lessons about choice is what was meant to be taught, then it seems that we did all OK, for today at least.
Life is about to speed up and my only goal is to live up to anyone's expectations but my own. Our prerogative is to be unique, to be stellar in how we say so and to take the next step as we see fit. It is our right to define our position in the world and today it becomes our right to define that as a UVM alum. As my 60 seconds come to a close, my only reminder to all of you will be never to forget the real groovy UV, and on a more personal note I want to thank all of you who have made my choice of UVM so very worth it.
