Graduate College Hooding Ceremony

Faculty and students planning to process should arrive by 3:15 p.m. at the Multipurpose Facility with your cap, gown and hood. Reception to follow. For questions, contact the Graduate College, (802) 656-3160 or gradcoll@uvm.edu.

Instructions for Degree Candidates

• Procession Formation begins at 3:15 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Facilities
  
• Procession begins at 4:00 p.m. sharp! Wear academic gown, carry hood draped over left arm, and place your tassel on left side of your cap.
  
• While forming the processional line, you will be given a card. Print your full name as you wish it to be announced.
  
• You will be seated in the gymnasium. During the ceremony you will:
  
  • Be escorted to the stage (bring your name card)
    
  • Have your name announced
    
  • Walk to the Center Stage
    • Hand your hood to the Marshal (or in the case of doctoral candidates – to your faculty advisor)
    • Face assembly
    • Be hooded
      
  • Walk down the steps on the opposite side of the stage
    
  • Return to your seat (doctoral candidates remain on or in front of the stage, as directed)
    
• After the ceremony, please join us at the Reception in the Lobby of the Patrick Gymnasium. Congratulations!
