Academic Ceremonies - May Commencement


IMPORTANT UPDATE! Due to a favorable weather forecast, the University Commencement Main Ceremony and the College of Arts and Sciences ceremony will be held outdoors on the University Green as originally planned. (Tickets are not required for these ceremonies.)


Guest Information

The following information is provided to help our guests find the services they need on campus during Commencement on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Specific information is provided for both the planned outdoor ceremony on the University Green and, in the event of severe weather, the alternative venue indoors at the Multipurpose Facility in the Athletic Complex. Information which is not identified specifically for the outdoor ceremony or indoor ceremony is common to both.

Outdoor Ceremony: Information Booths can be found at the Student Service Center in the main lobby of the Waterman Building from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and on the University Green north and south of the Waterman Building, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Indoor Ceremony: An Information Booth can be found in the main lobby of Patrick Gymnasium from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and at the Student Service Center in the main lobby of the Waterman Building from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Wi-Fi Access

Limited free Wi-Fi is available for your wireless devices. To access, simply select the UVM Guest Network. No user name or password is required. Please note, Wi-Fi will not be available at event venues.

Snacks, Refreshments and Dining Options

Saturday, May 17
Graduate College Commencement Ceremony.
Snacks and refreshments are available for purchase from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. under the Concession Tent in front of Patrick Gymnasium.

Sunday, May 18
Davis Center: The Marketplace
, located on the 2nd floor of the Davis Center, is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. serving deli sandwiches, salads, fruits, snacks, and beverages. Henderson’s Café, located in the UVM Bookstore in the Davis Center, serves a selection of specialty coffees. Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m..

Outdoor Ceremony: Snacks and refreshments (hot dogs, sandwiches, fruit, cookies, muffins, chips and beverages) are available for purchase from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. under the Concession Tents on the University Green, and in front of Patrick Gymnasium from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. The Waterman Café in the lower level of the Waterman Building will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. serving “to go” sandwiches and salads, snacks, and beverages.Water stations are located on the UVM Green. Look for the blue tents.

Indoor Ceremony: Snacks and refreshments (hot dogs, sandwiches, fruit, cookies, muffins, chips and beverages) are available for purchase from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. under the Concession Tent in front of Patrick Gymnasium. (The Waterman Café in the lower level of the Waterman Building will not be open.)

Restrooms

Outdoor Ceremony: Portable restroom units are located on South Prospect Street, north and south of the Waterman Building. Restrooms are also located inside the Waterman Building at the College Street entrance, and in Williams Hall and Old Mill on the east side of the University Green. All indoor restrooms and the portable unit located on the south end of South Prospect Street are handicapped accessible.

Indoor Ceremony: Restrooms are located in the main lobby of the Patrick Gymnasium and portable restroom units are located outside the entrance to the main lobby of the Multipurpose Facility. All restrooms are handicapped accessible.

Indoor Viewing of Main Ceremony

Outdoor Ceremony: Families and friends may view the University Commencement Main Ceremony indoors on large screen closed-circuit TV in Memorial Lounge on the main level (3rd floor) of the Waterman Building.

Indoor Ceremony: If the main ceremony has been moved indoors to the Multipurpose Facility on the Athletic Campus due to severe weather, tickets will be required. Guests without tickets may view the ceremony on large screen display and closed circuit TV in the Davis Center.

Special Needs

Ushers wearing yellow vests are available to assist with requests for: FM hearing impaired devices, commencement programs in large print, Braille, and e-version.

Flower Sales

Golden Key International Honour Society will be selling flower bouquets at the Main Ceremony (Sun.), the College of Arts and Sciences Ceremony (Sun.) and the Graduate College Ceremony (Sat.). Flower tables for Arts and Sciences will be the same as for the Main Ceremony (see below). Flower tables at the Graduate College Commencement Ceremony (Sat.) will be in the lobby of Patrick Gym.

Outdoor Ceremony: The Golden Key International Honour Society will be selling flowers in two locations on the University Green both north and south of the Waterman Building at the Information Booths.

Indoor Ceremony: The Golden Key International Honour Society will be selling flowers in the main lobby of Patrick Gymnasium.

Commencement Flowers

Many beautiful floral arrangements are used to enhance the stages and venues for the various ceremonies and events over commencement weekend.  At the end of commencement, these flowers will be donated to local nursing homes so that their beauty may continue to be enjoyed.

UVM Bookstore

The UVM Bookstore is located on campus in the Dudley H. Davis Center at 590 Main Street. The Catamount Store, is located on the Church Street Marketplace at 46 Church Street. The stores offer an assortment of UVM clothing, gifts, diploma frames, and other merchandise. On Sunday, May 18, the campus Bookstore will be open 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.. The Catamount Store on Church Street in Burlington will be open 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m..

Outdoor Ceremony: In addition to the campus Bookstore in the Davis Center and the downtown Catamount Store, a Kiosk will be set up on the University Green for last minute purchases. The Kiosk will be open 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m..

Indoor Ceremony: In addition to the campus Bookstore in the Davis Center and the downtown Catamount Store, the Kiosk in Patrick Gymnasium will be open 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for last minute purchases.

Shuttle Bus Service

Outdoor Ceremony: Shuttle busses will run every 10 minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from designated bus stops at Patrick Gym, Royall Tyler Theatre, Given Lot, Jeffords Lot, Davis Center Oval, and the Conference Center at the Sheraton. A dedicated shuttle will run between the Flynn Theatre, Hilton Hotel, and Allen House. Please refer to the Quick Reference Guide for more parking and shuttle information.

Commencement Photographs

University Photography will be on hand to take candid photographs of the University Commencement Main Ceremony.  Those photographs will be posted on the commencement website shortly after May 20. 

GradImages
, a professional commencement photography business, will photograph each graduate in their regalia at each college/school ceremony with the exception of College of Medicine. 

UVM Medical Photography
will photograph the College of Medicine Commencement Ceremony.

Commencement DVD

A DVD of the 213th Commencement Ceremony will be available from the UVM Bookstore for $37.95 plus $7.99 shipping and handling (please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery).

The DVD will include both the University Commencement Main Ceremony (Sunday, 5/18, 8:20 a.m.) and an individual college or school ceremony of your choice: College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences (CALS), School of Business Administration (BSAD), College of Education & Social Services (CESS), College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences (CEMS), Rubenstein School of Environment & Natural Resources (RSENR), College of Medicine (COM), College of Nursing & Health Sciences (CNHS), Graduate College (GRAD). The Honors College Scholars Recognition Ceremony (HCOL) or a second individual ceremony may be added to the DVD for an additional fee. Lost and Found

Outdoor Ceremony: Lost and found for people and property is located at the Information Booths on the University Green both north and south of the Waterman Building. They are located at 284 East Ave. Inquiries regarding non-valuables should be directed to Conference and Event Services at (802) 656-5665 or at conferences@uvm.edu beginning Monday, May 19.

First Aid

The UVM Rescue Squad will be available to provide first aid assistance during the main commencement ceremony. In addition, First Aid Kits will be located at the Information Booths for minor needs.

Outdoor Ceremony: The UVM Rescue Squad will be located in front of the University Health Center on South Prospect Street.

Indoor Ceremony: The UVM Rescue Squad will be located outside the main entrance to Patrick Gymnasium.

Emergencies

In the event of a true emergency, dial 911 from a cell phone or use one of the “Blue Light” emergency phones located throughout the campus. In either case you will be connected immediately with an emergency dispatcher.
