This far in figure skating..

The UVM figure skaters went to a competition that went well, the Girls skated a clean program and received a positive critique. The judges said that they showed a lot of potential for this season. Their program has come a long way from last year and they should place well at easterns. Congratulations Skaters!

A taste of warm weather to compliment the victories!

The Men's Rugby Team defeated UMass and Middlebury (for the first time in years) and qualified for nationals with the number one seed. The swim team went to a meet at Dartmouth where the girls won 137-131 and the boys lost 91-134 and they look forward to swimming there again. The shooting team was out and about this weekend and had fun. They didn't win or place, but had a great time and learned a lot about traveling and competing, so come spring time they'll be more prepared. Congratulations all!

From the dropping kicks to dropping sails

The Sailing team came out with a 5th place finish at this weekend's Schell Trophy at MIT, despite the 25 knot winds that struck. Their phenominal pit crew really held strong when they fixed up the boat between the races. They are now qualified to compete at the Coed Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship at Harvard next weekend. The Women's Team has had a very successful fall; they'll finish the season with the Horn Trophy Team Race this weekend, but the girls have been just outside the national rankings for four weeks now. The Atlantic Coast Championship will close a tremendously successful fall for the Catamounts; this performance will guarantee one of the nation's most competitive schedules for 2010. Additionally, the Cats will welcome eighteen much-needed new sets of North Sails for our FJs. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club had a tourament in Winowski this past weekend on Saturday. This is tourament that involves all of New England and Qebec Canada. The results are as follows: Brian Hamel 1st place gi; 1st place no-gi; Gi and no-gi Grand Champion! Heather Enyingi 3rd place gi; 1st place no-gi and no-gi women's Grand Champion! Luke Tress 2nd place gi; 1st place no-gi and lightweight no-gi Grand Champion! Masters and Horses call for celebration!

UVM Taekwondo's very own Master Jaime Schulte has been appointed the Referee Chair of the Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference, which is part of the the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association. He was also named National Referee of the Year by the NCTA for 2009. A very big congratulations to him! Also, the Equestrian Team was 2nd by one point at UNH with a mega come-back in the afternoon (they were near the bottom of the pack after jumping). Reese Green was High-Point Rider for the day, and we had many blue ribbons!

Lots of wins despite injuries and illness

The Men's Club Soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat St. Anselms College 3-2 on Sunday, with only 12 players who were able to make the trip due to illness, but goals by Andreas Varsakopoulos, Ali Sadeghi, and Tyler Ellis along with key saves by keeper Trevor Quinn lead us to victory. Men's rugby defeated URI 37-7 putting them into the New England Rugby Football Union Playoffs, being held at Middlebury this Saturday and Sunday. And, the women's club volleyball team won the Harvard Tournament. They went undefeated during pool play and then went on to beat West Chester in the finals to take the whole thing. Everyone did an amazing job!

Club sports teams dodge the rain by a hair

It was an exciting week here in club sports. The Men's Rugby Club beat Norwich 55-0 and are training vigorously to play St. Mikes next week for their last regular season game. Also, The Brazilian Jiu Jitzu team traveled to Newton MA to go to a Black belt Seminar to learn new cutting edge moves that are being developing. Some also received belt promotions.Will Harrigan-Anderson and Luke Tress are now purple Belts and Nathan Mercer, Brian Hamel, Nate are now Blue Belts. Congratulations!

UVM colors are shining as bright as the leaves!

In club sports this week, a variety of teams were out and about. Field hockey had an exciting weekend as they began their National Field Hockey League inter-league play. Thankfully, the weather held up they were able to play all three games this weekend. They won against UMASS with a score of 6-2, and against UMAINE with a score of 4-1. The Men's Club Soccer team traveled to Brandeis University and won 2-1, with goals scored by Evan Karge and Eric Mackin. And the Women's rugby team played WPI and won by a landslide much to the pleasure of a large crowd of parents and alumni.

Hundreds of Students Watch This Thrill Seeking Performance

On Friday October 2, 2009, at exactly 12:27 PM, a group of students gathered in front of the Bailey Howe Library to do the Thriller as hundreds of people came to watch.Featured in this video are numerous student organizations but most notably several Club Sports including members of Salsa and Swing society, Cheerleading, Urban Flava Step team, Orchesis dance compay, UVM dance team, and the Catamount Dance Crew.

Chilly weather no detriment to Club Sports

As Vermont weather reemerges this week from what had been an extraordinary September Club Sports are in no way slowed by the elements and are as busy as ever! This week Club Sports host one if its heavy home schedule in the spirit of homecoming and parents weekend. Field Hockey hosts a jamboree of games all weekend in their fight to stay on top of their league standings while Men's and Women's Rugby play pivotal games on their quests to continue their playoff appearances streak. Women's Soccer caps off the home docket in preperation for their trip to regionals in two weeks time. Despite homecoming weekend ten teams travel abroad for competitions highlighted by Triathlon and Golf who will be competing in their league championships and Racquetball who will be competing in their first ever competition! Good luck to all and if you are looking for something to do this weekend check out one of our many events.

UVM has a player of the week, Fall Foliage and more

LAst weekend was certainly a succesful one for UVM Club sports. Amongst the highlights were an immensely well hosted Water Polo tournament with junior Derek Wolf picking up Noth Atlantic player of the week honors for his 9 goals in 4 games. The Sailing club continued its dominance and was awarded with a move in the rankings to tenth overall, currently UVMs highest ranked team regardless of Varsity or Club. This weekend looks to be an exiting weekend on campus and on the road again. The Salle Catamount Fencing club hosts their annual fall foliage event in the PFG complex. Women's Rugby has an important match up this Saturday afternoon on the Rugby Pitch and Men's Ice Hockey Club opens up what is looking to be a strong season at home with games against Umass and Uconn, on Saturday and Sunday respectively. GO CATS GO!

Club Sports look for success this weekend at home and on the road

While many Club Sports here at UVM have been representing the green and gold for a couple of weeks already, action really picks up this upcoming weekend with a slew of big games. First and foremost, the WAter Polo club hosts their first ever meet and looks to have some success with key returnees and a slew of players making their debut. Football, still looking for their first win despite a couple of good showing hosts CDFL Albany this Sunday at 1 down at BHS. Check out North Beach and then head over for the game. Filling out the home schedule is another sunday matinee as Men's Club Soccer hosts Tufts over at Essex Tre Farm. After dominant performances from both Sailing and Cycling last weekend, keeping with both teams reputations as perennial national contenders, both look to continue their success this weekend with key races on the docket. After some tune-ups last weekend Men's and Women's Ultimate as well as Men's Soccer, Men's Rugby and Golf begin the regular season and are looking forward to a great season.

Activities Fest

Activities Fest will take place on Wednesday Septmeber 9th in the Davis Center Oval. This is a great opportunity to meet many of of our Club Sports in person and learn all about their organizations. Additionally, numerous other organizations including Clubs, Academic Departments, and local vendors will be in attendance to show off all that they have to offer. Get out there and check it out

Club Sports Are Back in Action

With Football leading the way having started practices last week and having their first home game, this Friday the 28th of August at Burlington High School, Club Sports are officially back in action. Later this week will see Crew, Sailing, and Men's and Women's Rugby back on the water and the field's respectively. Shortly after the start of school, Men's and Women's Soccer as well as Field hockey Men's Club Ice hockey will be hosting their respective tryouts. Cycling team has tremendous performance at road nationals

UVM Cycling Team had great success at Collegiate Road Nationals this past weekend in Fort Collins, CO. UVM's Jamey Driscol, won the men's division 1 road race Friday followed by UVM's Will Dugan who took second. Saturday in the D1 Men's Criterium, UVM's Colin Jaskiewicz took first place putting the green and gold on top of the podium once again. This is a momentous occasion for the team, UVM, and the Burlington cycling community as a whole.

Club Sports welcomes Racquetball as its 49th family member

The University of Vermont Student government Association recently recognized The Racquetball club as its newest student organization and adds them to its expansive Club Sports roster. The club aims to accomodate both the recreational and competitive 'baller' through such intiatives as a match finder for all players and a collegiate league for the most talented and intense. All are welcome in the club though who are hoping to introduce the game to many and fuel the passion of the more experienced. Crew team racks up podium finsihes at the ECAC championships

Up against stiff competitions from Varsity and large club teams across New England, the UVM Rowers proved they belong in the field and surpassed many of their rivals en route to several victories. The Men's Varsity 4's claimed first place in as did a Women's Novice 8 boat. The Men's Novice 4's came up with a second place finish. Many other boats had personal bests! The UVM Crew team finishes up their season this weekend at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. The Team has high hopes coming off their best performance in years at the ECAC championship.

A few more events to wrap up the semester

As we reach the last week of classes most activities at UVM are winding down but a number of Club Sports are primed for big weekend. Women's rugby is hosting their "Ruggers against Rape" tournament while Orchesis Dance Company, Figure Skating, and Urban Flava Step Team each host their signature year end shows. Tickets are still available for all. Sailing and Crew highlight the end of year push as both teams prepare for regional regattas and look to do quite well in both. The same goes for Men's Lacrosse who looks to claim their conference championship. Go CATS GO!

Snowboard, FreeSki, and Swimming represent UVM at National Comps

On the heels of Fencing's return from Nationals The Club Swim team, Snowboard teams and Freestyle Ski team are currently competing at their respective National competitions. The Club Swim boasts 16 swimmers, 5 men and 11 Women. The Snowboard team has 8 riders looking to once again claim top spot at USASA nationals in Colorado. Just down the pipe (pun intended) the Freestyle Ski Team looks to prove they too are amongst the best clubs in country

Members of SASS return from Dance Sport Nationals with high rankings

The Salsa and Swing and Society (SASS) sent its Ballroom Competition team to USA DanceSport Nationals in Baltimore this past weekend. The team had a very succesful weekend claiming ribbons in a number of categories. Several Members returned with National rankings to their credit. This list includes: Hannah Goodwin, Joe Larose, Corey Grifiths, Ryan Hayward, Maygan Arnuco, Owen Brady, and Kyraiel Pinualt. Congrats to these individuals and the whole team. Next week, SASS sends its top Salsa dancers to Montreal to perform at the International Salsa Congress.

Member of Club Sports Community injured, please show our support

Mike Schwarz was injured this past weekend while doing what he does best, going big. Mike is a member of our Snowboard Team and while riding on his own at a quarter pipe competition took a spill. He is currently hospitalized and while his condition is stable he still has a big fight ahead of him. For more information, updates and to express your support please go to the Mike Schwarz page. Club Sports and the Student Goverment Association would like to send our hopes and well wishes to Mike and his family in this tumultuous time.

Second ever CSC meeting a very productive one

With almost all of the 48 clubs in attendance the Council meeting last night was very productive. As a whole, the representatives provided great insight into their clubs and the needs of Club Sports as a whole. In addition the Council drafted a resolution in regards to PE Credit and evaluated and discussed several other future plans. Frisbee Teams, Equestrian Team and others showcase abilities over break

Several Clubs had great stories to tell upon returning from Spring Break. Men's and Women's Frisbee, despite the temptation of the nearby beach on Jekyl Island, managed to combine for a record of 16-2 as they prepare for a run at the regional tournament this spring. Equestrian was dominant over the weekend in New Hampshire as they fight for the regional lead getting towards the last couple of weekends of the season. The Ballroom competition team of SASS managed to collect 15 ribbons amongst its competitors as it looks forward to USA Dancesport nationals next month. Both Cycling and Sailing won competitions sprinkled in with their spring break training. Congratulations to all of the clubs starting spring off right, by being safe, having fun, and being rewarded for their hardwork.

Club Sports athletes forgo the beaches for training

As spring break begins half a dozen Club Sports depart for week long training in preparation for their seasons. Men Women Ultimate frisbee teams will play in the High Tide tournament in Georgia where they are the champions and runner-ups respectively. Sailing travels to Virginia where the water is ice free and Crew takes a bus load of rowers to South Carolina for some on-water practice. Cycling goes to the mountains of North Carolina which will hopefully be mud free. To cap it all off Men's Rugby travels to Ireland where they will engage in practice sessions and games against club teams there as well as tour some of the historical sites and take in a professional rugby game. We wish them all safe and fun travels.

Women's Club Ice Hockey claims Championship - and in dramatic fashion

The Women's club ice hockey team capped off an amazing season with a huge victory over league rival Northeastern to claim the northeast region title. This time last year the club had never played an intercollegiate game. Over the summer the team found a league and started playing games this fall only losing twice out of ten contests, both to Northeastern and on both occasions by one goal. However, in the championship game the club came up huge taking the game to a shootout and winning in the tenth round! Congrats to all the girls!

Cyclocross winners receive recognition from the instition

Two members of the UVM Cycling team received great write ups in "UVM Today". Click HERE to go directly to the article. Hopefully it is a sign of what is to come for the Cycling team this spring.

Ice and Roller Hockey teams narrowly miss playoffs

The Men's Ice hockey Club and Roller Hockey clubs played their final games of the season recently and each missed the regional playoffs by just one game. Both teams had great seasons though and return many players to next year's squad. The Club sports department and UVM congratulate them on all thier hard work this year.

Women's Squash wins division at Nationals

Last weekend the Women's Squash team traveled to Princeton, NJ for its second national championship appearance in only the club's third year in existence. Showing how far they have come, the club won the "emerging teams" category beating out such athletic powerhouses as Notre Dame. Congrats to the Women's team show Men's counterpart look to duplicate the success this weekend in their respecive tournament.

Club Sports begin heating up despite the cold

Club sports teams, already in the midst of practicing, begin hitting the road over the next couple of weeks for a slew of events, competitions, and perfomances. Men's Frisbee departs for Las Vegas in the next couple days while Men's Squash gears up for thier national tournament two weekends from now. While many teams will be traveling in the coming weeks, Men's Club Ice Hockey hosts in-state rival Norwich Saturday ngiht @8 pm over at nearby Leddy Park. In addition the Swim Club hosts Northeastern in a meet on Saturday at 2. At stake, are a couple of pool records (varsity, club, or other)that could be smashed by our swimmers not to mention points to send the team to nationals.

Gymnastics receives nice write up in the Vermont Cynic

the Gymnastics club, featuring both men's and women's teams was featured this past week in an article in the Vermont Cynic, a weekly school newspaper. The article touches upon the clubs transition from Varsity team to Club team. It goes on to talk about their upcoming semester highlighting the planning that all the students are doing to attend their Associations National Meet in Atlanta, Georgia. From nearly 50 members, the club intends to take 30 students who we know will represent UVM with great skill, pride, and sportsmanship.

Men's Club Basketball Wins at home

Despite a late push by the New Hampshire Technological College, a Varsity community college program, the Men's Club Basketball team held on and squeaked out a 77-76 win on home court. Both the Men's and Women's Club Basketball teams travel to New Hampshire this weekend for a round of games as both squads gear up for the NIRSA Region 1 Championships. Both teams have a legitimate shot to win regionals and travel to Michigan for the national tournament.

SASS Members claim 19 ribbons at Manhattan Ballroom Amatuer Open

One week after returning to school 20 members of the Salsa and Swing Society, known on campus as SASS, loaded up the vans and headed to the ehart of Manhattan to compete in one of the more famous Ballroom dance competitions. The club entered many disciplines and claimed 19 ribbons overall. The club also had a wonderful opportunity to sightsee in NYC including a memorable trip to China Town

Men's and Women's Hockey Teams start the new year strong

The Men's club hockey team won a pair in convincing fashion this weekend including a win over in-state rival Norwich. The Women's team also had a good showing this weekend winning at home and coming just short in a one goal loss to league leader Northeastern in what likely will be a league championship matchup

Tennis team makes 48th Club Sport, begins gearing up for Tournaments

Just before the Winter Reccess the Tennis Club was recognized by the Student Government Association and has joined our Club Sport Universe. club Tennis is one of the fastest growing phenomenons on college campuses nation wide and UVM is happy to welcome them into the fold. The club has already started practicing in anticipation of their first competitions next month. Coaching the team is former Varsity coach Muff Parsons-Reinhart

UVM Cycling continues to collect accolades

In Kansas City last week, UVM cyclist Will Dugan claimed first prize in the Collegiate Nationals division of CycloCross. In addition, UVM student and club member, Jamie Driscoll placed second in the professional category of the competition. Congratulations to the riders and the club!

The Men's Club Basketball team is hosting a fundraising 3 on 3 tournament on sunday Dec. 7 starting at 11am in the Patrick Gymnasium. Prizes go to first, second, and third prize. In addition to the Orchesis showcase, this is another great study break as finals approach

UVM Cyclist injured - Students and Community mobilize in support

A very unfortunate event occured last week involving a motorist and on of our club sports family members, Rose Long. Rose was struck by a car and banged up pretty good. Both the UVM and Burlington Cycling communities are trying to extend their support for Rose and her family in these trying times.

9/9/08 Weekend Update

Several teams began competition highlighted by the Football teams first intercollegate contest in over 30 years. The squad lost 27-15 to a quick Norwich team but showed improvement throughout the game. A co-ed Frisbee team competed at the Clarkson tournament and Women's Rugby dominated in an exhibition tournament at St. Mike college dusting the host team and a side up from Vermont Law proving once again that UVM is home to some of the strongest Club Sports teams in the state!

8/26/08 Wrestling team joins League

One of UVM's newest clubs, having just gained approval in the spring, has already been accepted into a league. The National Collegiate Wrestling Association governs the sport for Club and sub-varsity teams around the country and UVMs Club joing the NorthEast conference which is currently the fastest growing conference in the nation. The Club hopes to attend about five meets and vie for a spot in the conference championships next semester.

8/18/08 Sailing Team Ranks #6 in pre-season rankings

- The University of Vermont's Sailing team comes in at #6 in the ICSA pre-season rankings after a very strong finish last Spring gaining their first ever bid to nationals. The team is excited for the upcoming season that will feature many returning sailors and a strong class of first-year students.

8/18/08 UVM Football begins pre-season

The UVM football club begins training camp this evening in preparation for a challenging second season. The squad comes off a 6-4 record and a trip to the league semi-finals in their inagural season, an undoubted success. Not complacent, the team has adjusted its schedule this year to face only intercollegiate competition and will begin their campaign in early September.
