The Neo-Classical architectural style is based on the architectural styles of ancient Greece and Rome. Being that the nation's capital of the last great superpower (sad, isn't it?) is built in this manner, it obviously is important to understand its origins, no?
Roman
domestic architecture has been the marvel of civilizations throughout
the world since the fall of Rome and before. The construction of the
Pyramids by the Egyptians is an obvious parallel.
The Emperor Diocletian
had an apparent love of architecture to go along with his love of ritual.
For a more interesting perspective, AncientSites.com has created an
educational
web game having to do with ancient Rome, among other
places. It certainly is a lot of fun, although be patient with your
computer, there are sometimes lags. What a feeling; to be able to walk
around ancient Rome!
