Auf den Geburts-Tag Sr. Excellenz
des Herrn Grafen von F. Leipzig
den 25. August 1731.

Cantata

[1.] Aria

So kämpfet nur, ihr muntern Thöne,
Und fallt und steigt, und wechselt schöne,
Erfüllt ein angenehmes Chor,
Jeden noch stellet in dem Hören,
Ein tieff und zärtliches Verehren

[2. Recit.]

Heut ist ein Tag der Lust,
Ein Tag, dem Ehr und Rum gebührt!
Und darum hat auch unsre Brust,
Ein Danck-Altar zum Opffer aufgeführt,
Denn, Theurer Graf, Dein Wohlergehn,
Schaut seinen Grund noch feste stehn.

[3.] Aria

Sey willkommen frohes Licht,
Deine Strahlen sind uns Wonne,
Bleib im Segen und Erfreuen,
Und erweitre Dein Gedeyen
Doch zurücke gehe nicht!

[4. Recit]

Gleichwie ein Fluß
Je länger seine Quelle läufft,
Nur desto grösser ströhmen muß.
So sey auch deine Lebens=Zeit
Mit Wachsthum und Zufriedenheit,
Geprießner Flemming, überhäufft.
Denn Dein Vergnügen, Deine Ruh
Beschützt uns auch, und deckt uns zu.

[5.] Aria

Wie die satten Schafe
Mitten in dem Schlafe
In des Schäfers Obhut seyn,
Schläfft auch ohne Grauen
Unser gantz Vertrauen
Unter Flemmings Schirmen ein.
Daß man ungestöhret
Unsre Flöthen höret,
Dancken wir Dir gantz allein.

Laß Deine Gnad und Güte,
So wie Dir angebohren ist,
Uns annoch fernerhin umgeben!
Der Höchste, dem Du treu
Und angenehm und eigen bist,
Verlängere Dein Ziel zu leben.
Nichts weiß sonst unser fromm Gemüthe,
Was nöthiger zu wünschen sey.

[7.] Aria

Lebe und grüne, grosser Flemming,
Wie ein stetes Blumen-Feld!
Wie Dein Ruhm und Deine Thaten
Groß und fruchtbar sind gerathen,
So sey auch Dein Ziel bestellt.

1. Aria

Contend ye then, ye tones so lively,
And fall and rise and vary brightly,
Make full a most enchanting choir,
Each one supplying in his hearing
A deep and tender sense endearing,
The image of our very souls.   

Da Capo.

2. Recit.

Today we have a joyful feast,
A day for laud and honor meant!
And therefore hath as well our breast
An altar raised on which our thanks is sent,
That, worthy Earl, thy good estate
Beholds its grounds yet firmly stand.

3. Aria

Be most welcome, joyous light,
For thy radiance is our pleasure;
Bide with blessing and rejoicing,
And expanding e’er thy vigor,
Never leaving, from our sight.   

Da Capo.

4. Recit.

As with a stream,
The longer doth its sources run,
E’en so much greater will it flow.
Thus be, too, thine own course of life
With increase and contentedness,
O honored Flemming, overwhelmed.
For thy contentment, thy repose
Protect us too, and are our shield.

5. Aria

As fatted flocks of sheep
While lying down in sleep
In the shepherd’s care abide,
Sleeps, too, e're untested
Our full trust invested
Under Flemming’s shelt’ring guide.
That with no disturbing
We our flutes are hearing,
We just thee our thanks confide.

6. Recit.

Thy grace and kindly giving,
Which was it seems to thee inborn,
Us now and always be surrounding!
The Highest, whom thou true
And pleasing art, and special born,
Make longer of thy life the timing..
Nought else could our faithful feeling
Deem more important from us due..

7. Aria

Live long and flourish, mighty Flemming,
Like an ever-blooming plain!
As thy fame and thine endeavors
Great and fruitful have now prospered,
So be too thine end ordained.
