Self-paced Latin offers students a chance to learn to read and write Latin in an alternative format to the traditional approach used in Latin 1 and Latin 2. The instructor will be available in a classroom at a set time one day a week, both to deliver a short lecture on topics relevant to the course, and to answer questions; s/he will also hold generous office hours. Students pursue the study of the language at their own pace, but may not pass on from one unit to the next until their level of comprehension is 90% or better, as evaluated by written quizzes and tests.
Students will receive 0-8 credits of language study, depending on the percentage of the elementary Latin book mastered. This course is ideal, and recommended, for students presenting two or three years of high school Latin. The method also offers a less tedious introduction to grammar for the linguistically able: a really motivated student can complete the entire book in the fall and enroll in Latin 52 for the spring.
Prerequisites
None.
Credit Hours
0-8 Variable.
