Latin 101: Survey of Latin Literature

This course has readings from Latin authors of the Republican period, primarily Caesar, Catullus, Cicero, Sallust, and Terence, in Latin, supplemented by more extensive readings in English translation. Students will explore the dramatic changes in society and culture characteristic of the late Republican period. Class format will be lecture and discussion along with translation. There will be hour examinations and a paper or project. Latin 101 may be taken for the Literature Distribution Requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Prerequisites
No firm prerequisites for this course; ability to read the language is all that is necessary. Most students, however, have had three or four years of high school Latin or the equivalent.

Latin 51-Latin 52 recommended.

Credit Hours
Three.
