Latin 1: Elementary Latin

Latin 1 is a beginning course in the Latin language. In one semester students will cover approximately half of the grammar. This will be supplemented by readings from various texts.

This course requires daily homework and recitation by the students, and quizzes and one-hour tests are frequent. Since the comprehension of the subject is cumulative, regular attendance is imperative. The course meets four times a week. The completion of Latin 2 is not required for credit in Latin 1.

N.B. Students who have had more than two years of high school Latin are not eligible to take this course. See department faculty for recommendations.
