Frequently Asked Questions about Billing
Q: Why is there is a charge on my student account?
A: If you used CHWB services and had any billable charges (labs, immunizations, crutches, etc.) and didn't pay for them at the time of service, these charges will appear on your student account.
Q: I have my own insurance. Why weren't the charges submitted to my insurance company?
A: We don't directly bill insurance companies because we are not deemed a "participating provider." At your request we will provide you with a receipt when your visit is over. You can submit the receipt directly to your insurance company and request reimbursement from them.
Q: Will my insurance cover any or all of my charges?
A: Unfortunately we have no way of knowing what your insurance will cover. It will be up to you to contact your insurance company (preferably before you incur any charges) to see exactly what might or might not be covered.
Q: I didn't get a receipt when I left. What now?
A: No problem! You can either call the billing office at 656-8509 or email a request for the receipt to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide your name, Student ID Number (95...), and the date of service (date of your visit). The receipt can be mailed, faxed or emailed to you—whatever you prefer.
Q: I paid the UVM Health Fee this semester. Doesn't that cover all charges?
A: No. The Health Fee covers many basic services, but it does not cover services like lab work, immunizations, orthopedic supplies, CHWB psychiatry or travel clinic visits, spirometry, or EKGs. Current charges for these services are listed here. It is important to note that the Health Fee is different from the UVM Student Health Insurance Plan (UVM SHIP).
Q: I have the UVM Sponsored Student Insurance Plan, so why did I get a charge on my student account?
A: Even if you have UVM SHIP coverage, there are certain charges that are not covered under the plan. These include immunizations, visits to the UVM Travel Clinic, and some laboratory tests. Also, note that psychiatry visits are prorated. For full explanation of benefits please refer to www.universityhealthplans.com, the administrators of our plan.
Q: Why was I charged for an office visit?
A: The Health Fee does not cover visits to the Travel Clinic or Psychiatry.
Q: I don't take the required number of credits to automatically get assessed the Health Fee and I want the benefit that the Health Fee provides. Can I do that?
A: If you are taking more than 5 credits you have the option to pay the Health Fee; simply contact the billing office at 802-656-8509 and the charge will be applied to your student account.
Q. Do I need to pay the Health Fee to use Center for Health & Wellbeing services?
Q. Are there any students NOT eligible for services?
