Meet the Staff

  • Anne Desmond Anne Desmond, RN, MS

    Anne is the Triage Nurse for Student Health Services. She answers questions and gives support to students both over the phone and in person for the Center for Health and Wellbeing. Anne received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN and a Master of Science from the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Most recently, Anne was a Registered Nurse at Fletcher Allen Health Care taking care of patients on a busy medical and surgical floor.

  • Art Klossner Arthur Klossner, PA-C

    Art is a Physician Assistant in Student Health. Prior UVM, Art worked for several years in college health setting, and in a Urology Practice where he developed a strong interest in Men's Health. He earned his master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and his bachelor's degree at Hamilton College.

  • Candace Polzella Candace L. Polzella, M.S.S., R.D., C.S.S.D; Registered Dietitian

    Candace received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Vermont, completed her dietetic internship at The New York Hospital, and received a Master’s of Social Science from the University of Colorado, Denver. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).

  • Cheryl Flynn Cheryl Flynn, MD

    Cheryl joined the Center for Health and Wellbeing in February 2011 as a physician in Primary Care and as the Student Health Medical Director. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University Medical School, did her family medicine residency at the University of Virginia and is board certified. She additionally holds masters degrees in epidemiology and family therapy. Cheryl's medical interests include evidence-based medicine and integrating the mind-body connection in promoting health.

  • Donna Decker Donna Decker, Billing Specialist

    Donna is the Billing Specialist for Student Health. She oversees all billing activities, and helps patients understand how billing works in conjunction with their UVM Student Account. In addition, she is the billing liaison for UVM Rescue. Donna has been at UVM for over 17 years and attended Trinity College in Burlington.

  • Jon Porter Jon Porter, MD

    Jon is a physician in primary care and the director of the Center for Health and Wellbeing. He earned his B.S. and M.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor for the Department of Family Medicine at UVM's College of Medicine and is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice.

  • Karol Josselyn Karol Josselyn, RN, MA

    Karol is the Coordinator of Nursing in Student Health. She is a Travel Nurse, ADHD coordinator, specialist for follow-up care in the area of Tuberculosis prevention, and specialist for Immunization/Serology requirements for College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She graduated with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School, and completed internships and post-graduate work at the UVM Counseling Center. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nursing at UVM and has worked in CHWB for over 12 years

  • Katherine Mariani Katherine Mariani, MD

    Kathy is a physician in Student Health and she leads Women’s Health Services. She serves on the Gender Violence Task Force and provides care for victims of sexual assault. She also serves on the UVM HOPE Team, which provides integrated care for students with eating disorders. She is a Family Medicine physician, and prior to UVM worked at UMASS Medical School teaching medical students and residents. She attended the University of Miami Medical School and University of Notre Dame for her under graduate studies.

  • Kerry Fantelli Kerry Fantelli, PA-C

    Kerry is a Physician Assistant in Primary Care. She provides comprehensive health care to students and enjoys educating and teaching students about healthy lifestyle choices and changes. She incorporates holistic care to office visits, treating each patient with the mind-body connection as a basis for their health care. She earned a Bachelor's degree from SUNY Geneseo and a Physician Assistant Masters from D'Youville College.

  • Kim Bombard Kim Bombard

    Kim is a Scheduling Specialist for Student Health. Kim is one the first contacts students have with us. She answers the phone, schedules appointments, and sits at the front desk to greet students. Kim holds an AS in Business from Champlain College. Prior to working at UVM, she taught art to children and adults.

  • Krys Bigosinski Krys Bigosinski, MD

    Krys is a physician in family medicine who is also board certified in sports medicine. He graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical School, completed his residency at Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle, WA, and also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Rush University in Chicago. He is the team physician for the UVM intercollegiate sports and is passionate about promoting and maintaining healthy and active lifestyles for both athletes and non-athletes alike.

  • Lejla Pasic Lejla Pasic

    Lejla is the Administrative Coordinator for Student Health. She oversees day-to-day operations of Student Health and gives administrative support to clinical efficiency. She also manages reports and operating functions for the Electronic Health Record System. Lejla is native of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has an AS in Business Management and Computer Applications from CCV and Mechanical Engineering degree from Engineering School in Sarajevo.

  • Lisa St.Onge Lisa St.Onge, LPN

    Lisa is a Clinic Nurse in Student Health. Lisa monitors patient flow in the clinic, welcomes patients, starts appointments, and performs tests for the clinicians. She also provides phone and self-care teaching to patients. Prior to UVM, Lisa worked at the FAHC Maternity Care unit and at Essex Pediatrics. Lisa received her LPN degree at Fanny Allen Memorial School of Practical Nursing and has been a nurse for over 30 years.

  • Margaret Johnson Margaret Johnson, BS Ed., Insurance and Immunization Compliance Coordinator

    Margaret is the Coordinator for Insurance and Immunization Compliance in the CHWB. She manages the UVM sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and also ensures that students are in compliance with the state-mandated immunization requirements. Margaret holds BS in education from UVM and has attended William Smith College.

  • Mariette Shepard Mariette Shepard, Administrative Assistant SHC

    Mariette is the Assistant Coordinator of Immunization Compliance and an Administrative Assistant. She receives student immunization records and ensures students have met the state requirements. She has been at UVM for 21 years, and prior to CHWB, worked at in Financial Analysis and Budgeting and the Office of Affirmative Action. Mariette has a BA in Studio Art & Art History from UVM and AS in Business from CCV.

  • Martha Seagrave Martha Seagrave, PAC and EHR Support

    Martha is a Physician Assistant in Student Health. She provides comprehensive health care to students and enjoys working with students to optimize their health and self-confidence. She also works with the Electronic Health Record to continually enhance patient care. Martha has a Bachelor's in Health Education and Professional Nursing from the University of Vermont. Martha also works half time as a Director of Medical Student Programs in Family Medicine at the UVM College of Medicine.

  • Mary Bucher Mary Bucher, F.N.P

    Mary is a Family Nurse Practitioner in Student Health. Mary enjoys a holistic approach to health issues and wellness, and professional interests include women's health and mental health. She attended the Ohio State University for her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Master's degree in Nursing. Prior to UVM, Mary worked at a Family Practice in Utah.

  • Mary Morwood Ransom Mary Morwood Ransom, LNA

    Mary is a Clinical Nurse in Student Health. Mary monitors patient flow in the clinic, welcomes patients, starts appointments, and performs tests for the clinicians. She attended UVM and Champlain College, and earned her LNA from Fletcher Allen Health Care in 2004. She has worked at UVM for over 15 years.

  • Michelle Paavola Michelle Paavola, MD

    Michelle Paavola [Pah' vah lah] is a physician in Student Health. She earned a B.S. at the University of California, Irvine and attended UVM for medical school. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at UVM/Fletcher Allen. Her philosophy of care is to provide person-centered, continuous, comprehensive care.

  • Nancy Carney Nancy Carney, LPN

    Nancy is a Clinic Nurse in Student Health. She provides travel immunizations and information to students who use the Travel Clinic (which she pioneered here 15 years ago), administers shots to students who use the Allergy Clinic, and provides other nursing procedures. She earned her LPN degree at Fanny Allen School of Nursing and has been a nurse for over 30 years. Prior UVM, Nancy worked at FAHC and a walk-in care clinic.

  • Pat Jackson, RN Pat Jackson, RN

    Pat is a Clinic Nurse. She answers questions and gives support to students both over the phone and in person for the Center for Health and Wellbeing. Pat received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware and an Associate Degree from Delaware Technical and Community College. Prior to UVM, Pat worked in a bilingual (Spanish/English) family practice in Newark, Delaware. When not working, you’ll find Pat on her bicycle or in a garden.

  • Ryan Kathleen C. Albertson Ryan Kathleen C. Albertson, W.H.N.P.

    Ryan is a Nurse Practitioner in Student Health who specialized women's health care. Gynecologic areas of interest include vulvo-vaginal health & hygiene, sexually transmitted infections, and contraceptive management. She is passionate about sexual and reproductive health care. She earned Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Montana, and a Master of Nursing from Simmons College.

  • Teresa Primo Teresa Primo, Senior Scheduling Specialist SHC

    Teresa is the Senior Scheduling Specialist in Student Health. Teresa is on of the first contacts students have with us. She answers the phone, schedules appointments, and sits at the front desk to greet students. Teresa has worked for CHWB for over 15 years, in Psychiatry, Administration, and Primary Care.

  • Wendy Young Wendy Young, Medical Records Coordinator

    Wendy is the Medical Records Coordinator for Student Health. She sends patient records to other providers and processes in the records we receive from other offices. She also continues to manage the paper files used prior to the implementation of our current electronic medical record system. Wendy attended UVM and joined UVM 30 years ago. Prior to her current position, she was a Medical Assistant in Student Health and also worked for Vermont Regional Cancer Center at UVM.
