Athletic Medicine
The student-athletes at the University of Vermont receive the highest quality health care available by the UVM Athletic Medicine Staff. Athletic medicine is a unit of the UVM's Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHWB) and provides specialized care for the University of Vermont varsity intercollegiate athletes.
In addition to the staff within the CHWB, student-athletes benefit from the affiliation UVM Athletic Medicine has with the orthopedic specialists at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Orthopedics/Sports Medicine Center. Dr. James Slauterbeck serves as our orthopedic liaison and works closely with Dr. Verry and the athletic medicine staff to provide world class orthopedic medical and surgical care for Vermont student-athletes.
The athletic medicine staff is comprised of 8 full-time certified athletic trainers. This staff maintains two full service athletic training rooms at the Patrick Gymnasium and Gutterson Fieldhouse. All of the athletic trainers are certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and are licensed by the state of Vermont. The staff also serves as approved clinical instructors in the CAATE-accredited undergraduate athletic training program, housed in UVM's Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science. Athletic Training students enhance the care given to the student-athletes by completing clinical experience in athletic training rooms at UVM, as well as many other area locations, in addition to their full academic course load.
