Students started the 2002 season with a goal to increase their vegetable donations, secure funding for a hoop-house, set up a farm stand on campus, and create club tee-shirts. Matt Leonetti (PSS) was democratically elected as the Farm Manager. Matt, Jeremy Dahl (PSS), Phil Pare (SNR), Yarrow Collins (PSS),were full-time farm workers. Tobiah Schulman (PSS), Claybrook Griffith (PSS), and Chase Rosenberg (ENVS) were part-time farm workers. Buddy Tignor advised the club over the summer. There were two share options: $175 for 15 weeks or an extended share of $200 for 18 week. Students sold 36 shares.
This year students did a great job with donations from the farm acreage, and working with researchers at the farm by trading labor for crops to donate. The food donation was 15,025# of vegetables, and apples, tomatoes and potatoes from research plots. Student create a vegetable stand on campus in front of Bailey-Howe. Hoop-house will be built for summer 2003. Tee-shirts were made and distributed. Congratulations to our student farmers for all there efforts.
Students gave a tour in September to a bus load of Environmental Science first year students. The first Annual Harvest Festival for students, faculty, and shareholders was also held in September. Edmunds elementary school kindergartners visited the farm in October. These excited students had a blast at the farm and left with loads of gourds and veggies. They loved the giant pumpkins!
