Woody Biomass Energy Research Symposium for the Northern Forest

Wood Biomass Field Tour, Saturday, April 30, 2011

Addison County Woody Biomass Site Visits

To illustrate the full process of woody biomass utilization from field to facility, this trip will tour several sites in Addison County, VT involved in providing, processing and using woody biomass energy.  This full day event includes transportation from Burlington to Mt. Abraham High School in Bristol, VT where morning presentations by the Forest Guild and the UVM Community Biomass Project will set the stage for the day. Participants will visit Karen Lueder's and Jim Dumont's family forest on West Hill in Lincoln as well as a site utilized by A Johnson Lumber Co. in the area, to experience a spectrum of harvesting practices.  Later in the day, the tour will stop at the A Johnson Mill and Processing Facility for a look at the next stop in the biomass process. Back at the school, participants will get the opportunity to view the school's wood chip heating facility with time for questions and discussion that arose throughout the day. A box lunch will be provided.
