2010 Site Visits and Research Trips
In June of 2010, UVM graduate student and project coordinator for the urban and community forestry research, Elise Schadler, spent time in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA to conduct interviews and visit urban forestry sites. The trip was focused on developing the case study for the CarbonPlus Calculator but also allowed Elise to meet with various urban forestry professionals and to gather perspectives about urban trees and voluntary carbon markets.
In September of 2010 Elise was able to travel to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA to conduct further interviews and to spend a day with the Cascade Land Conservancy in order to develop the case study for that organization's Carbon Mitigation Program.
In November of 2010 Elise attended the Partners in Community Forestry National Conference in Philadelphia, PA. The Alliance for Community Trees holds its Annual Member Meeting the day before the conference and at this event, Elise hosted a roundtable discussion about her research on urban forests and voluntary carbon markets and also developed a flyer to summarize her research and highlight some of the case studies.
