On September 15, the VT State Board of Education voted Dean Fayneese Miller as its new chair. Appointed to the Board for a six year term in August 2007 by Governor Jim Douglas, Dean Miller will now oversee the 10 member Board that has supervision over, and management of, the Department of Education and Vermont's K-12 students. Since joining the Board, Dean Miller has been a leader in the Board's efforts to transform Vermont's educational system to insure that our state elementary and secondary school students are prepared to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century. On her appointment, she said, "I am deeply honored to have been selected as the Board chairman by my colleagues. I have the pleasure of working with people who are committed to transforming education in Vermont and, thereby, ensuring that all Vermont children and youth receive an educational experience that is individualized and of high quality. We on the Board have a great deal of work ahead of us but we look forward to leading this important educational effort."
