Common Core Conference held at the Davis Center
The Common Core: A Significant Shift for Learners: Preparing all Students for College and Career Readiness.

A group of eighty educators convened on October 10th in the Davis Center for a conference entitled: The Common Core: A Significant Shift for Learners: Preparing all Students for College and Career Readiness. The educators consisted of faculty and deans from institutions of higher education, superintendents and curriculum coordinators from local school districts, teachers and members of the State Department of Education.
Keynote speakers were Dean Fayneese Miller from the College of Education and Social Services at UVM and Marta Cambra, Director of Assessment and Teacher Quality from the State Department of Education. The purpose of the conference was to hear a presentation by the content specialists from the State Department of Education in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics regarding the new Common Core Standards that will be implemented in Vermont schools.
In the afternoon there were vertical discussion groups. The groups addressed next steps for collaboration between K-12 partners and higher education institutions with regard to the implementation of the standards and the implications of these standards in Vermont classrooms and teacher preparation programs.
