Caitlin Patterson Named Junior Nordic Skier of the Year

Caitlin Patterson Ski Racing Magazine has named Caitlin Patterson the 2010 “Female U.S. Junior Nordic Skier of the Year.” Patterson is a sophomore majoring in civil engineering in the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Patterson heard that she had received the award from her family in Alaska.
Her brother Scott Patterson, a multiple-time Junior National Champion, was named “Male U.S. Junior Nordic Skier of the Year” by Ski Racing Magazine -- he will be graduating from South Anchorage High School this spring.

Franz Bernstein Named Male Collegiate Nordic Skier of the Year

Franz Bernstein Ski Racing Magazine has named Franz Bernstein the 2010 “Male Collegiate Nordic Skier of the Year”. Bernstein, a sophomore majoring in engineering management in the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, is the first Catamount to win an individual national championship in the 20k freestyle at the 2010 NCAA Ski Championship since Vermont Hall of Famer Thorodd Bakken took a title in 1998. Bernstein makes UVM history by being the 8th male UVM Nordic skier to win a national championship.
