Our vision is to establish the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) and the University of Vermont (UVM) as unique world-class research and educational leaders in the study and applications of complex systems, with an aim toward enhancing the health of the individuals, societies, and environment of Vermont, the nation, and the world.
Our mission is to act as a hub and catalyst for interdisciplinary research, educational and technology-transfer activities in CEMS, UVM, and beyond, related to complex systems. In order to accomplish our mission, we will pursue a variety of strategic goals.
We envision three important outcomes of the study and application of complex systems:
The Center will distinguish itself among other complex systems centers by integrating and synergizing UVM’s unique strengths, including:
all in the context of a small high-quality public research University.
Furthermore, the Center will establish unique relationships with industry and government in order to translate academic innovations and insights into effective and sustainable economic development and public policy.
