Explore the World of Engineering, Math and Computer Science
The Outreach Office supports recruitment efforts of the College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) through hands-on intensive educational programs that explore the world of engineering, mathematics and computer sciences. Students learn how to make a difference in the world while learning firsthand what it takes to be an engineer or scientist.
Students are encouraged to visit these links and register for participation in the following programs and competitions.

Devices that can harvest apples, kinetic wind sculptures, and video footage will be on exhibit at UVM on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the tennis court area of the Patrick Gym. This 2009 UVM Design TASC (Technology And Science Connection), co-sponsored by The Aiken Lecture Series, provides middle and high school students with three engineering challenges: 1) Wind Harvesting for Automated Apple Moving (WHAAM!), 2) creating a Kinetic Wind Sculpture, and/or 3) creating a 30/60 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) video that addresses the issue of wind energy in the Vermont landscape.
Approximately $16,500 in prizes will be awarded to schools and students during the awards ceremony from 1 to 2 pm. TASC/Aiken is made possible by approximately 60 businesses, The Aiken Lecture Series, the University of Vermont, and the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). The top prizes include four IBM ThinkPads for the top four schools, and iPods provided by The Physician's Computer Company to the top five students.
UVM TASC/Aiken Challenges are designed to encourage middle and high school students to explore sustainable engineering technology through the use of wind energy.
For more information and to register, visit: Technology and Society Connection (TASC).
Middle school students (girls and boys, ages 12-17) can register for exciting one-day engineering hands-on activities that include topics such as: aviation, architecture, computers, electricity, engineering, energy, geology, hunter safety, metals, radio, photography, space exploration, and surveying.
The College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) has partnered with General Dynamics, Green Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scout Council of Vermont to offer these introductory educational opportunities. The program will be held in conjunction with UVM Design TASC/Aiken Challenges on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at UVM.
Students do not need to be scouts to participate.
